I've been working on Unitime timetabling and encountered an issue that I'm hoping someone can help me with. Here are the steps I've followed:

1. Academic sessions
2. Departments
3. Date pattern
4. Time pattern
5. Subject areas
6. Buildings
7. Rooms
8. Instructors
9. Instructional offering
   - Course creation
   - Splitting course into theory and lab
   - Assigning instructor
10. Run solver to create the timetable (loaded data into the system before running, then clicked start)
11. Save the created timetable

However, I keep getting the following ERROR: "Nothing to solve." I can't seem to find the issue.

If anyone has experience with this error or has suggestions on what might be causing it, I would greatly appreciate your insights. Perhaps there's a step I missed or a common mistake that I should be aware of.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Dear Pardheev,

The "No classes to load." or "Nothing to solve." error message mean that were no classes loaded into the solver or that the solver has no classes to assign respectively. There can be a couple of reasons for that:

There are no classes associated with the department(s) for which the data are being loaded into the solver. Please check the relation between the solver group you are trying to load (page Administration > Solver > Solver Groups) and department(s) associated with your classes (displayed as the class manager, e.g., check Administration > Academic Sessions > Subject Areas).

There are classes associated with the department(s), but they were not loaded because there is no time/room assignment available. This happens, e.g., when you do not have a time pattern associated with the class or the class requires a room bigger than any room available. These cases are displayed as warnings in the solver log (and as problems listed on the Solver page) when you try to load the data into the solver.

Please see the Administrative User ManualCourse Timetabling Data Entry Manual, and Course Timetabling Solver Manual for more details (all these manuals are also available from the menu, under Help > Manuals).

Best regards,

Tomas Muller
