As a resident of Perth Amboy for the past 27 years, I must say that
never has there a more critical juncture in the city's political
landscape and in the direction that this city should be headed in.
In spite of the many transformations that Perth Amboy has gone
through, it seems more evident that a change in leadership is needed.
Like many residents of Perth Amboy, I am really concerned and troubled
by the exorbitant increases in Property taxes and mismanagement of
funds. There is no good reason to almost double the amount of Property
taxes residents are now paying on their homes. While some equate
progress with "pretttying up" the landscape, reductions in crime & a
few redevelopment projects, I see these accomplishments as mere
responsibilities that any city should provide.
We still have overcrowded schools, gang problems, high unemployment
and many other issues that remained unresolved.
We have a City Council that is afraid to stand up to the Mayor, we
have a Part Time Mayor who intimidates anyone who disagrees with him,
is condensending to his constituency, and frankly has grown out of
touch with the real needs of the people.
His tired political games have become just that, tiring. His political
expediency is so transparent, a blind man could see right through it.
By naming Joel Pabon to run on the same ticket for City Council just
shows how polarizing his tactics are. With all due respect, Joel pabon
may be a nice guy, but what qualifies him to take on a City Council
seat?
His record while on the School Board was paper thin and is currently
part of the School Board team that has allowed the schools to overflow
with hundreds of extra students while not taking strong action to
build a new High School.
We need leadership to go in a new direction not more of the old. When
Vas became mayor, he did not have the experience, yet he was able to
make progress and move the city forward. I believe Wilda Diaz can be a
good mayor given that same opportunity.
It is time for change. Vote Wilda 2008..
