Rafiq - I've added your event to the UBA website.

To the rest of the team, someone needs to take charge of organizing all of the material for the website and our first communication to various expatriate groups introducing UBA.

We need the following:

1. A list of all group email addresses or other important Bangladeshis who should be informed.
2. A 3 paragraph or shorter email doing the following:
 - Introducing UBA and explaining the Victim's Compensation Fund
 - Telling people how they can participate (join the mailing list, get their local organizations to pledge via our website, donate directly to DP on behalf of UBA)
- Ending with a signature of UBA Executive Committee

This should we well written (no bad grammar !!) so we come off as credible. We can send this out of our in...@unitedbangladeshappeal.org mailing address so it looks professional. Let me know if you want to know how to use this address.

Mridul / Muhit Bhai - Can you come up with something based off the materials we have so far? I'm swamped so I won't be able to give much time but I'm happy to help edit before thing goes out.

Let's target this to go out on Sunday night to the world,

Rasheq

Few suggestions:

1. Stocks (Muhit Bhai wordsmith if necessary)
"The United Bangladesh Appeal can also leverage equity donations to our partner organizations. Gifting appreciated stocks or mutual funds may have potential tax advantages for the donor, please consultant your tax advisor if you are considering this option."

Muhit Bhai, Rahat: I am assuming all of the 501(c) orgs in the UBA can receive a stock gift...If Drishtipat and other 501(c) orgs can receive a stock or mutual fund gift, how can a donor transfer these assets from their brokerage account? I don;t believe at DP we have a brokerage account to receive assets into. So therefore an alternative is to limit to BRF which has a brokerage account...in that case we can say... "The UBA can also leverage equity donations made to our partner organization, The Bangladesh Relief Fund."

2. Under partners please add Drishtipat Chicago but I think it's better to just say "Drishtipat"

3. Under Upcoming events please add a placeholder for:

"Beads by ChikiObi" an afternoon of designer fashion jewellery
to benefit United Bangladesh Appeal/Drishtipat Chicago
Dec 7th, 4-7pm at 540 E Hickory St,  Hinsdale, IL
(we'll make a flyer, details TBD)

4. I like the Drishtipat link being the online way to donate - so what if all funds collected via the DP link is going to UBA instead of immediate relief...and does UBA really need the overhead of a separate paypal link or can we just keep it as-is with the DP link?

thanks

Rafiq

Slight problem with what I wrote regarding fund appeals.  Most partner organizations are running two campaigns - one short term and one for UBA.  So if we redirect people we need to make sure that these partners have separate donate link. This again will be confusing.

I suggest the best bet is to create a paypal account for muhit bhai's bangladesh relief fund and link it from there.  However, until it is ready use one of the orgs with 501c status.

Also see Muhit bhai's email below

If you need to put Drishtipat's as a stop gap measure. See below what to put as code. Please explicitly mention that UBA is using a partner's online tool.  Also rafiq bhai sent something about stocks.  Can't recall.

Thanks,
asif

We do need to make the paypal or the
credit card link active as soon as possible.  In the
US, the half life of disasters is short.  In another
week, it will have been forgotten.  Is there something
we can do in this regard soon?

Great. I look forward to seeing the draft.

I'm hoping to talk with Mridul's sister soon to discuss how she can help make it more accessible.

Cheers,

Rasheq

Rumi bhai was writing the appeal.  Not sure if he is on the list.   We need to add a last few bit of touches   One more thing is I suggest Mridul's sister brushes up the website to put a more human face to it.  Is it easy to make the blog two columns in stead of three?   Although it is very functional but Bangladeshis not used to may got lost in the clutter.  I suggest joining via google groups can go to the contact page and news, category etc move out and we can have everything in one side column.

Thanks a lot.
Asif
