THE UNC STANDS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER – IT IS TIME TO CRUSH NARCO-TRAFFICKING ONCE AND FOR ALL
The United National Congress stands firmly with our Political Leader and Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, regarding her strong and unflinching statement in reference to the fight against narco-trafficking in our region.
The Prime Minister’s words reflect her passionate personal conviction, and also the deep frustration and determination of the vast majority people of Trinidad and Tobago.
For too long, our nation has suffered under the weight of the drug trade. Narco-trafficking has infiltrated every level of our society—not just the criminals and gangs on the streets, but also elements within our banks, large conglomerates, the justice and security systems, the State, and even sections of the media.
This cancer has undermined our development, corrupted our institutions, and fueled a cycle of violence and fear. It is no wonder that the Prime Minister’s clear, uncompromising language has resonated so strongly with our citizens.
Indeed, the social media polls and newspaper questionnaires conducted over the past week show overwhelming support for the Prime Minister’s choice of words. The people understand that softness has failed us. They recognise her language for what it is: a declaration of her iron will to restore law, order, and progress to Trinidad and Tobago.
Those who now call on the Prime Minister to “tone down” her language must understand that they are, unfortunately, part of the problem—sometimes unknowingly, but sometimes knowingly. Calls for moderation in the face of such a destructive scourge only serve to embolden the cartels, weaken our resolve, and maintain the very status quo that has destroyed countless lives. That is why Trinidad and Tobago found ourselves with the three highest murder rates in our history in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
After just over 100 days in office, we are already seeing results. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has just confirmed that August 2025 recorded the lowest monthly murder rate in 10 years—which was the last time Kamla Persad-Bissessar held the Office of Prime Minister. This is not a coincidence. It is proof that firm leadership and decisive action work. We are finally moving in the right direction.
The UNC is proud of our Political Leader and Prime Minister. We support her passion, her courage, and her vision. There is no room for weakness in the face of the narco-cartels that have destroyed so many lives and livelihoods. We have passed that point. The failed softness of the last ten years gave us nothing but death, destruction, and despair.
The people of Trinidad and Tobago deserve to live in safety, prosperity, and dignity once again. Under the bold leadership of Prime Minister the Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, we will dismantle the criminal networks, root out corruption, and rebuild our society.
We will fix this country.
We will make Trinidad and Tobago a paradise again.
