UNC IGNITES SANGRE GRANDE: POWERFUL SPEECHES, NEW ALLIES, UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM

Sangre Grande came alive last night as thousands of energised supporters flooded the UNC’s Mass Meeting, demonstrating the undeniable momentum shifting in the party’s favour for the upcoming April 28 General Elections..

The People’s National Movement (PNM), already struggling with a lackluster campaign, now faces an even greater challenge as the UNC expands its Coalition of Interests with key political and national figures joining the movement for change.

The night was historic as the UNC announced a powerhouse candidate for the key Tunapuna marginal seat—former Senior Superintendent Roger Alexander. A decorated law enforcement officer and de facto local crime fighting celebrity, Alexander said he was ready to bring real solutions to the country’s crime crisis.

Other candidates announced were Dr. Rishad Seecheran, incumbent Caroni East MP, Dr. Narindra Roopnarine (Naparima), a respected medical professional committed to improving healthcare and national development, and the young, dynamic Nicholas Morris (Mayaro), who said he was determined to restore prosperity to Mayaro and turn it into an Energy Hub of the Caribbean.

Please find brief candidate bios attached.

Major Union Leader Declares Open Support for the UNC

In a bold and historic move, Felisha Thomas, the newly elected President of the Public Services Association (PSA)—the largest trade union in the country—delivered a passionate speech urging workers to reject dictatorship and reject the PNM. Her presence and endorsement signaled a powerful shift, as the labour movement aligns with the UNC to fight for workers’ rights and economic justice.

Wayne Sturge: A Fighter for Sangre Grande

Wayne Sturge, the UNC’s candidate for Sangre Grande, set the stage for an electrifying electoral upset for the massively underperforming PNM incumbent. With his strong legal background and fearless advocacy, Mr. Sturge vowed to bring real representation and economic revitalisation to the people of the East.

Roger Alexander: A Crimefighter Steps Forward

The moment Roger Alexander stepped onto the stage, the crowd erupted. The former top cop laid out his reasons for joining the UNC, vowing to bring an end to the crime crisis that has gripped the nation. His speech was met with thunderous applause as he outlined a clear vision for security reform and national safety.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar: A Clear Plan to Rescue Trinidad & Tobago

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar delivered a rousing feature address, calling for national unity and action during this time of spiritual significance, with Ramadan, Lent, Navratri, and Spiritual/Shouter Baptist Liberation Day all being observed.

She exposed the PNM’s 10 years of deception, economic decline, and broken promises, highlighting that:

- The PNM has made 490 budget promises and broken 373 of them.

- They repeated over 100 promises year after year without delivering.

- They are planning to introduce property taxes on HDC homeowners.

- They will strip pensioners of their benefits if they have over $25,000 in savings.

A Strong, Holistic Crime Plan

She reinforced the UNC’s 60+ anti-crime initiatives and 60+ justice reform measures, promising to put tough and experienced leadership in charge of Home Affairs. She declared:

“We need tough people to implement these plans. We want someone leading the Ministry of Home Affairs who knows the system from the ground up, someone who knows where the criminals are, how they operate, and how they think. We will give him the power and resources to shut down these criminal gangs and enterprises once and for all.”

She also committed to revolutionising the private security industry, ensuring fair wages, tax breaks for safety equipment, and improved working conditions.

UNC calls out the Illegitimate Prime Minister Stuart Young directly

Political Leader, Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar concluded by calling out the illegitimate Prime Minister Stuart Young directly, saying,

“For over a decade, you sat as the right-hand man of the raging bull, and you oversaw the oppression of our country’s poor, working and middle classes.

Now, you come to talk about equality for the small man and woman.

Stuart, I say to you tonight—you, with a track record of bullying, elitism, nepotism, destruction, and contempt for the small man—nobody believes a word that you say!

Under my UNC government, every single person—the children, the single mothers, the differently abled, the young professional, the elderly---every single person knew that there were measures in place or being put into place to ensure that their needs were being met and that if they were to suffer some form of setback, they were systems.”

(NB: Her speaking notes, as well as those of Roger Alexander and Felisha Thomas attached).

The message going forward is clear: Hope is alive. Change is coming. Victory is within reach.
