The following is a statement from the Chairman of the UNC Elections Management Committee regarding election for the post of Political Leader of the United National Congress.

 

“Today 27^th July 2025 is Nomination Day for the post of Political Leader of the United National Congress. The deadline for receiving nominations is 4:00pm.

 

We confirm that as at 4:00pm today, 27^th July 2025, there is no other candidate for the post of Political Leader of the United National Congress.

 

Rule 5.5.2 of the Manual And Rules For The Election For Political Leader To Be Held On August 17th, 2025 states:

 

“In the event that only one candidate is validly nominated, the Committee shall announce that candidate as duly elected unopposed to the office of Political Leader and formally end the election process.”

 

Accordingly, the Election Management Committee acting in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Party following  the election of the Post of Political Leader of the Party hereby declares:

 

1. That the Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC is the duly elected Political Leader of the United National Congress.

2. The election process for the post of Political Leader has now effectively come to an end.”
