Chris, did you already have your town hall meeting? Your post was
almost 2 weeks ago, so not sure if you got it off the ground yet.
If you haven't, I have a couple of suggestions(even though I'm sure
you thought of them already):
1. for the venue - try to pick a location that may already have
available a lot of these resources like churches, synagogues, mosques,
etc. ; community/rec centers ; schools ; Or music &/or theater
location. Some of these will be willing to allow you to use their
space for no cost, while others may require payment(financial or in
kind).
2. for organizations - I would start with other groups concerned with
the cause like occupations, movetoamend,
citizen.org, or maybe even
moveon.org or coffee party groups. Don't forget local community
organizations, block captains, the PTA, etc.
3. for advertising and speakers - first, by contacting the
organizations mentioned above, you could potentially tap into their
resources for help. For example, flyering and word of mouth can be
done for advertising and these groups may help with the manpower to
accomplish both. Also, it may help for different people to call into
local talk radio or media. These organizations, especially those with
this as their focus, may be willing to have some people speak. If you
have local politicians friendly to the subject, contact them to talk
as well. Another source may be professors at colleges and law
schools, who may be interested in discussing the matter if not
speaking. I would definitely recommend a "panel" format for the
townhall. Having approximately 3 speakers addressing specific topics,
if you can, on the subject and then having a question/answer period.
I hope this helps.
