Hey guys,
So in an effort to be more proactive this semester, I just went through a lot of the guidelines for our assignments (woo!)   For the Alzheimer's project it is split up into three parts-- since there are 6 of us, do you want to go 2 per subject and put together info for that part?  Then, when we meet on Wednesday we can be really prepared. If you guys are okay with this I can do whatever part no one else wants to do :)

1. Description of the disease, including symptoms, findings, incidence (in US and other
countries), age or gender or other predisposing factors and outcomes (morbidity, consequences
like life expectancy).

2. Etiology of the disease. What is the cause or origin of the disease, the basis of the cellular
manifestation of the disease, and if known, the molecular/genetic defect.

3. Diagnosis. How is the diagnosis confirmed? Lab tests, histological tests, how samples are
obtained. (Explain how these

Thanks for outlining it! I'd like to do Diagnosis if that's ok with everyone. Also, if each pair can organize their notes so that it's easier to compile into a handout, that'd be great as well. Our handout (which we'll distribute to the class) should be 2 pages. Keep track of your references and we'll put this on a separate 3rd page.

Thanks!
Rebecca

Hi all,

The attached looks like a good reference for the diagnosis team, especially if you want to discuss recently developed diagnostic criteria.  The traditional diagnosis requires post mortum analysis of the patient's brain, but this paper discusses upcoming in vivo tests that look promising.
