Hi Everyone,
Its that time of the year when most of us are preparing for the beginning of the school year. Hope all is going well with you.
After much discussion, the Executive Board of the United African Community(UAC) has agreed to proceed with the fundraiser for Somalia as previously scheduled. The launching of the UAC will be held at a later date yet to be determined. We are going to be partnering with the New American Services(NAS), a program of Lutheran Social Services to respond to the great famine in the East African nation of Somalia where unfortunately many are dying of hunger and starvation. We believe that we cannot stand by and watch while so many people are dying without doing something about it.

UAC and NAS are partnering to organize this effort in Grand Forks city and the funds will be channeled to the people of Somalia through the American Refugee Committee (ARC), a non-profit organization based in Minneapolis( http://www.arcrelief.org/site/PageServer ); ARC also has an office in Mogadishu, Somalia that is working on helping people on the ground. If you need any receipts for your donation, contact us and we will obtain them for you. Please, if you are making a check write it directly to American Refugee Committee. We will collect all the checks and or cash and give to ARC for onward transmission to Somalia.

The fundraiser is slated to be held at the UND International Center on Friday August 27, 2011 from 7 - 9pm. We will be having a potluck together with the event, which means everyone will bring any food item and beverage drink of their choice. We will also have a brief presentation about UAC, NAS and a short story about Somalia.

Please invite others to this occasion and come let us support this worthy cause.

Hello All,

On behalf of the United African Community and New American Services, I want to extend a big Thank You to those who were able to make it to the fundrasier to help Somalia. The event was very successful and is still ongoing. we have been able to raise about $3,400.0 by today. Some of the money is already in Somalia by tonight to begin the work it was raised for. This has been an historic effort undertaken by our community for the first time in Grand forks and it couldn't have been possible without your help. So thank you.

For those who were not able to make it to the event, you can still send in your donation. We are still accepting donations until September 12th when we will put ecerything together for the final wiring to Somalia. To mail in your donation, use the following address:
