 Hello Everybody,

I bring you all salute as you prepare for back to school or settle in school.

You all are probably aware of the great famine in East Africa that has impacted Somalia, in particular, very hard. In light of this crisis, the United African Community (UAC) of Grand Forks has partnered with the New American Services, a program of the Lutheran Social Services to organize a fundraiser to help the Somali people. This event is a potluck type event and will take place this Saturday August 27th, 2011 at the UND International Center from 7 to 9 pm. Please, come with a little thing you can bite and share with a friend, while donating anything you are able to afford to help some kid in Somalia during this crisis.

To put a little perspective to the picture, consider the following analysis.

1 20-Litre bottle of water cost about 50 cents in Somalia;
A family of 8 people can go by with about 200 Litres of water a day;
That is 10 20-Litre bottles;
That is about $5.0;

This implies that with a $5.0 donation, you can provide water that will be sufficient for a family of 8 for one day!
This means you have extended the lives of 8 people for at least one day!

Please, reflect on this and then you will realize that no donation is small. So come on with anything you have, it will mean a lot to the Somali people. Even if you can't make it, tell and encourage a friend to come. Please, pass the word to others that I may not be able to reach.

One last thing, if you really cannot make it but want to donate make a check payable to American Refugee Committee and mail to
United African Community,
C/o Alexander Azenkeng,

The American Refugee Committeeis theorganization we are working with that has offices in Mogadishu and will deliver the funds raised to the people on our behalf. If you need a receipt with your donation, please let us know and we will obtain it for you. Also contact us by email, if you will, at united.afric...@gmail.com.

Thank you and have a good day.

Alex.
