I have discussed this in 1994 and also sent a copy to the world Tamil meeting held in Thanjavur in 1994.  They asked me to come there and discuss this article.  I could not go for different reason.

 

In summary:

1.There is no such animal as Kavariman.

2.The word Kavariman is misspelt.  It is Kavrima.  Parimelazhakar use the word Kavirma and not Kavariman. VVS Iyer interpret as Kavarima. Dr.M.Varatharasanar interpret Kavarima as Kavariman.

3.If one looks at the explanation of the Kural No.969 by various people some doesnot want to commit and explain simply "if hair is lost kavarima lives not".

4.G.U.Pope and Father Beschi  gave the name yak for kavarima in  their translation of this KuraL.

5.The word is split into kavr + i +ma = attractive women.  Here இ என்பதுபெண்பால் விகுதி.  உதாரணம்: கூன் + இ =கூனி.

6.Thiruvalluvar says  in KuraL 964 தலையின் இழிந்த மாந்தர்...
7.TiruvaLLuvar stress the importance of hair in this and in 964 KuraL.

8.The explanation of KuraL 969 could be taken as Attractive Ladies when they loose their hair will die (do not want to live ).  Like noble will die when they loose their honor.  Everyone knows how important is the hair for attractive women.

9.There is no connection with yak.

10.TiruvaLLuvar, I believe,  would not have said as "Kavariman."
