Title: Semantic Data Model Matching

Abstract:  While standards provide interoperability for those organisations using the (same) standard, there is an increasing need for organisations using heterogeneous standards to exchange data. The process of mapping semantic correspondences between heterogeneous standards is still largely a manual process which is time-consuming, error-prone and costly. Semi-automatic approaches to discovering semantic correspondences remain limited in their practical aspect when applied to real-world problems. We present a pragmatic approach to interoperability, where ontologies are leveraged to annotate proto-typical information fragments in order to facilitate automated transformation between fragments in different standards and representations. We discuss our approach based on an example drawn from the oil and gas industry.

Kind regards
Kerry
