I'm forwarding this to the listserve as some people have signed on there, but are not part of the general distribution list. As a procedural matter, if people do care to sign up for the listserve at
http://groups.google.com/group/unionsquare then everyone can be reached with the one simple email address
union...@googlegroups.com. As the group continues to grow this may become more of an issue. Of course, it could also be said we're managing jes fine so ...
Union Square Neighbors - At the meeting on Thursday, March 8, the Union
Square Neighbors zoning petition was put on the agenda of the Board of Alderman.
Alderman Tom Taylor asked that the agenda item be moved up in the agenda and that I be allowed to speak on behalf of the petition. Moving up in the agenda allowed the 20 or so USN neighbors to leave at a reasonable time. They Board
of Alderman will forward it to the Land Use Commttee for public hearing(s) followed by Committee discussion and recommendation to the Board. Earlier in the day, in a meeting with the Mayor and his staff, USN members Stuart Dash,
Janine Fay, Eric Fellinger and Ted Poppitz discussed the key points of the USN petition. At this meeting, the Mayor noted that he expects the current City petition to expire, and work with his staff to submit a new petition. He also
noted that he was expecting to lead a public process for the new petition, and especially involve and communicate with the neighboring residential community. This puts both petitions, the USN petition and the upcoming new City petition,
roughly on the same time schedule, with a 90 day clock starting at the conclusion of the Land Use Committee public hearing on the petition. This means that there will likely be public hearings/meetings/discussion of these issues
through April, May and into June. - Stuart

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at
