At the Western District Police Community Meeting this month, Selby Avenue Beat Officer Anthony Brown said something that stuck with me and should ease any concerns about calling 911. He said “In 16 years I’ve never encountered anyone breaking into anything.” Other officers concurred. The police count on us to be their eyes and ears. They want us to dial 911 whenever we become aware of anything unusual or suspicious. Those of us who are home during the daytime play an especially important role in stopping crime. Between 4-12 and 4-18, 19 (65%) of the 29 burglaries in the Western District occurred during the DAYTIME; 12 (42%) were no-force entries, which is why we keep hounding you about locking doors and windows.
