Greetings All,
Just a few things to share, as it's later in the week than usual for you
to be receiving this newsletter.
A brief note on this past Sunday for those of you who were not here.
The congregation has extended a call to a new pastor which has
been accepted, pending successful contract negotiations. Out of
consideration for the current congregation being served by the candidate,
who yet need to learn of his plans, we are not naming the candidate
publicly until next week. Thanks to all of you for your prayers during
the transition period.
Also,
a note about Pennsylvania's latest attempt to push a
"Marriage Protection Amendment" is included at the end of
this email along with some steps you can take.

Stop SB 1250, the "Marriage Protection
Amendment,"
On January 17, 2008, Pennsylvania
State Senators started working to pass Senate Bill 1250, the
"Marriage Protection Amendment," that would amend the
Pennsylvania Constitution to define marriage as solely between one man
and one woman, as well as prohibit civil unions and potentially
more.
On February 14, 2008, the bill was referred to the Judiciary
Committee with 17 co-sponsors, the same number of Senators that
co-sponsored similar legislation last session.
People are needed to contact your Senator and give a voice to the
millions of Pennsylvanians who oppose writing discrimination into our
State Constitution. In addition to calling your Senator, we need people
to meet, face-to-face, with your elected officials about this important
legislation. Go to:
http://eqfed.org/campaign/marriage_protection_amendment_07 for more
info and direct links to sample letters, etc.
Also, People of Faith are needed to join the May 5: Rally
for All Families, Harrisburg - Capitol Building, Rotunda 1:00
Join Equality Advocates Pennsylvania, the Value All Families Coalition
and the Faith Coalition for Pennsylvania Families at a rally against the
anti-family constitutional Amendment. Last session, we held the
largest LGBT rally at the Capitol with more than 400 people in
attendance. Our goal this year is to
have more than 500 Pennsylvanians attend.
Legislators and organizations opposing SB 1250 will speak against the
legislation and the media will be invited to cover the rally.
All attendees are encouraged to visit
their legislators that day.
There will be a training session at
11:00 AM to discuss the legislation and visiting your elected
officials. The training location will be announced
soon --
There may be buses or vans from different areas of the state leaving that
morning and due to arrive in Harrisburg in time for the training.
More information will be on our
website as this
develops. If you have any questions about transportation, email
Equality Advocates at
in...@equalitypa.org.
If you have any questions about the hearing, Rally for All Families or SB
1250 moving forward, contact me (Stacy Sobel) at
sso...@equalitypa.org or at
(215) 731-1447 ext 11. Thank you.
Editor's note: I will drive and can take two people. Please contact me
(Fred) in the church office.
