Im looking for a bit of advice for my 1959 17' Uniflite . I currently have 2 stroke 60hp outboard that can only get the boat into a plowing mode, it will not plane out. As it is a deep V haul i would assume that more horsepower will correct this issue, a 90hp 4 stroke is what ive had my eye on. Before making that type of purchase though I am am curious as to whether this upgrade could be considered as too much power for this boat and if ill ill potentially have an issue with the transom

I had a 1958 17' Express that I re powered with a 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke and it had more than enough power. The older 2 strokes were rated at the power head while the newer 4 strokes are rated at the prop. In my opinion a newer 90 hp  4 stroke would be too much motor for the boat. A newer 50 or 60 would work well.

ive got the same boat! 55hp 2 stroke, handles fine and great, i wonder if maybe the prop just needed attention on yours. Heck i think i could run a slightly smaller engine on this boat. Especially if it was newer. Good luck!
