STATEMENT
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – 19 August 2025: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is deeply saddened by the devastating flash floods that have swept across Pakistan this monsoon season, causing widespread destruction and loss of life, especially in the northern parts of the country.
Since the start of this year's monsoon season, seven hundred lives have been lost, close to 3,000 homes have been destroyed, and numerous families are now displaced. Over the past few days, flash floods have washed villages away in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, leaving communities without shelter, food, clean water, and access to critical services.
As lead of the Shelter and Non-Food Item (NFI) sector in Pakistan, IOM is working closely with national and local authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to support response efforts and deliver life-saving assistance to flood-affected communities. Through the IOM Common Pipeline, a supply chain mechanism that channels essential NFIs to partners for onward distribution, IOM is mobilizing supplies to provide immediate relief to families impacted by the disaster.
This latest episode underscores the devastating toll of climate events in Pakistan and highlights the urgent need to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to prevent further losses and displacement.
IOM Pakistan extends its deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and stands in solidarity with all those impacted by this heartbreaking disaster.
