Hi!
We're talking with Terena TF-Storage about extending the surfnet pilot
to (potentially) the following countries:
http://www.terena.org/about/members_nat.php
This will take some time, but it's very exciting. You can read about
Terena's storage task force here:
http://www.terena.org/activities/tf-storage/
The way it works is that the remoteStorage pilot will at first run
parallel to Terena's Trusted Cloud Drive pilot
(
http://www.terena.org/news/fullstory.php?news_id=3140 ). The two
pilots are very much related, but we decided that it will be most
efficient to first run the two pilots in parallel, and then if both
pilots are successful, look at merging them together into possibly one
product maybe next year.
For now, we'll start in the Netherlands, though, and over the third
year of the project (academic year 2012/2013), add countries (taking
into account i18n as well) and grow our pre-registered user base. As I
mentioned in another thread, I think we should aim our design at
end-users whose university email address or employer email address has
remoteStorage associated with it. We can offer them a much better
experience than people who have to sign up somewhere first, and then
come back to the app.
Developers can obviously handle a slightly harder-to-grasp login flow
where they have to remember to use their ownCloud username or their
PageKite username.
I'll ask nlnet to renew their funding. We also may get some EU money
at some point.
Cheers,
Michiel.
