Here’s some propaganda posters for unhosted web apps, remotestorage
and Terms of Service; Didn’t Read:
https://github.com/unhosted/design/commit/5df258df57d46f3429caf7adcc3eb7b366e2ea36

It’s a hommage to the infamous »Home Taping Is Killing Music« campaign
against copyright infringement, which through the years already
spawned parodies like »Home Sewing Is Killing Fashion«. See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Taping_Is_Killing_Music

The typeface used is the openly licensed »Passion One«:

i don't get this 'killing servers'!?!?

especially that some people put quite some focus on FREEDOMBOX home SERVER :D
and i do like to take advantage of remote SERVERS to do some hard lifting for me using fast uplinks and not running on battery power!

we can also add one: "Unhosting is killing servers, say good bye to data in your remote storage" ;)

in general i like positive motivations: 'Unhosting helps you use internet in more autonomous way' etc.

It needed to be simple, short, and true to the original. It’s just a quick joke.
Also, it’s correct: unhosting your apps is killing the server-side
because it’s just statics. remotestorage is a different topic.

Nice work tho I had to stop and think to try and work out what the posters meant

Maybe something along these lines that applies to unhosted RWW and freedombox

"Reclaim your privacy"

OR

"Your data, the way you want it"

sure! i just would like to avoid demonizing server side components just for some sort of... let me call it 'hipsterish buzz' ;D

BTW with this concept of 'socket hubs' we would introduce yet another CRUCIAL server side component...

"Take control of your data"

was a tagline I used before discovering unhosted

I would prefer the direct approach. Not "you" but "me"

"My data, my decision"

"My stuff, my control"

"My data belongs to me."

"You want my data? Ask for it!"

Etc. You get the idea ;-)

I've been thinking about that one and I find it absurd, as the main options are either create an account on a cloud based service, or self hosting. I guess not many have resources for their own server anyway, so they settle for a cloud account anyway. How does that kill the cloud?

Well, I think it's meant to be absurd, but in this case killing the
cloud would refer to the diminished the back-end. No big server
back-end handling app logic, Just dump storage - if used at all.

How about "Your home server kills the cloud" (or "your freedombox kill
the cloud")?
