We have some great shows coming up. But I wanted to first say that I
am really missing some faces out there. Mike at Metropolis
Underground and I have been trying to bring some new people to
present, but the number of people who have been showing up has been
dwindling. Mike and I totally appreciate and are indebted to the
people that have been coming out to each and every show, but we
really
need to come together like we used to and show these musicians that
Syracuse is willing to try some new music. Most of these shows are
not very expensive. Some of them have even been free!! So there
really isn't alot to lose, other than the fact that you tried to
listen to new music and you supported the Arts in the process.
I know to some people that the Metropolis venue might be too hard to
get to, especially if you don't have a car. But I have been trying
to
present some of this music at different venues, and even this week
you
have a chance to see the same duo at 2 venues, so now you have 2
chances to see them. I would really love to see some more people
out,
and I know you would love to see us. Bring a friend who you think
would be into something like this. These musicians are trying to
spread new music on to new ears, and the only way to really feel and
hear them is if you come out and experience it for yourself, LIVE.
To
be really honest about this, I DO NOT MAKE ANY MONEY ON THESE SHOWS!
All of the money goes directly to the bands. I merely do this almost
as an act of civic duty to the Arts. Because a world without art, to
me, is a very sad place. This is my attempt (as well as Mike's) to
show that Syracuse is not a place where it sucks and nobody is doing
shows. We are doing shows, we just need the community and music
lovers alike to support the scene. Any scene. This community is so
tightly knit and vast, that we should all know what is going on and
how to support it. I leave it to the community to support itself.
There are people presenting music, just alot of people are not
showing
up. Again, we are so grateful for the people that show up everytime.
You are all very important to us, and I don't want you to lose sight
of that. But these musicians need more that the pocket change we
give
them and the money Mike and I pull out of our pockets for them.
Sometimes, the biggest payment to these musicians is that you
experienced something during their show that they brought out of you,
and that you went up to them and expressed that feeling. And the
only
way to be able to tell them that is if you are there to experience
it.
So bring a friend, and we hope to see you out there. I know its
tough
out there, but sometimes music is all you need to feel better.
