Highlight: Mobile Technologies and Teacher Development

 

UNESCO Workshop on Mobile Technologies and Teacher development

In 2012 UNESCO will launch, in partnership with Nokia, four pilot projects to explore how mobile technologies can be used to support teaching and teachers’ development in Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan and Senegal. To facilitate the conceptualization of project action plans, UNESCO, in cooperation with Nokia, is organizing a workshop on Mobile Technologies and Teacher Development from 29-30 March 2012 at its headquarters in Paris, France. Participants will include representatives of the four countries, international experts in mobile learning, representatives of Nokia, and members of the UNESCO ICT in Education Team.

Winner of the monthly idea award for the EFA Challenge n°3: Youth and Adult Learning Needs is « Education Time Bank  » by Eric Kotonya
Education time bank is a business model for open exchange of educational and tutoring services. This idea promotes a rate and reward system to help students
get specialized and personalized expert training  . Eric Kotonya will receive a Nokia Lumia 800 as a reward for his proposal.

Last year Worldreader began to investigate the development of a book app for mobile phones. The app will provide people an innovative way to read books on mobile phones.

Orange to provide free access to Wikipedia in developing countries

Wikimedia and Orange announced a deal to provide more than 70 million people with mobile access to Wikipedia at no cost. Through the deal, subscribers in remote and urban areas of Africa and the Middle East (AMEA) will get to use Wikipedia through mobile phones without incurring data fees.
