Along with the help of friends and colleagues, I’ve assembled this mailing
list to build a core community around my forthcoming book, Under the
Boards: The Cultural Revolution in Basketball. I am thoroughly grateful
to the many of you who have participated in the book’s development in one
form or another and I’m deeply appreciative of your continuous support. I
believe this network I’m creating will facilitate future collaborations as
well as the involvement of many new and wonderful folks.
So, welcome to the list!
I’ll use this as a forum to update you on happenings around the
book—readings, the appearance of excerpts, parties, etc.—building toward
its MAY 1 release and extending this momentum long afterwards.

Please visit the site, acquaint yourself with the project, and enjoy a
sneak peak at the book through its annotated table of contents and
excerpts.
You’ll find links to pre-order the book through amazon.com or via
telephone through the publisher, University of Nebraska Press, at

Please email me your thoughts, reactions, and ‘crazy ideas’ about how to
serve and grow the book’s audience. Please share the site with others
with interest in this book—sports fans, academics, journalists, those
intrigued by critical discussions of popular culture, hip-hop, race, race
relations, identity, fashion, and sociology, etc.—and invite them to join
the listserv through the site’s mailing list link (at the top of the
homepage). Or, if you choose to forward this email, please copy me

Know that it is my deep aspiration that Under the Boards reach as many
people as possible and take on (with its author as copilot) an exciting
