Hello, Friends--

I wish you an awesome official start to your summer.

It’s been a bit since my last email and I have some exciting book updates
to report:

1—Word is out. I’ve had the opportunity to gab about the book and
basketball news on several sports talk and ‘variety’ radio shows in
different parts of the country (all radio appearances are listed at
www.undertheboards.com/events.html).
There are two reviews out now: one, entitled “Race at the Rim”, appears
in WireTap Magazine (available online: http://wiretapmag.org/arts/43116/)
and a second appears in the UnderReview section of the latest issue of
Slam Magazine (August 2007; Greg Oden/Kevin Durant on the cover).
There are additional reviews on the way that I’ll pass along as they
become available, including a piece for The Heartland Journal by writer
and basketball coach Rus Bradburd (author of Paddy on the Hardwood: A
Journey in Irish Hoops) and a review by Earl Smith, Professor of
Sociology at Wake Forest and the author of Race, Sport and the American
Dream.

2—Book is moving. Thank you for your help generating sales through
spreading the word, sharing your ideas and contacts, and purchasing the
book. Please continue with your generous outreach. Under the Boards is
available in numerous parts of the world (and can even be found on the
Iranian online vendor adinebook.com for 201,900 rials!)

3—I’ve written an essay on the NBA’s unique lottery tradition for a
one-of-kind, free event that I’d like to invite you to (RSVP required to
lot...@nomas-nyc.com). At 31 West 19th Street, NYC, on Wednesday, June
27 at 7:30pm (the night before the NBA draft), No Mas (www.nomas-nyc.com)
presents The Lottery, a retrospective of the first ten years of the NBA
lottery from 1985-1995 featuring 105 artworks of the first 105 lottery
picks that all attendees—NBA GMs for the night—will have a crack at.
I’ve attached the digital invitation and event ‘instructions’.
I will forward a link to the essay shortly and please join us for the
lottery on the 27th.

4—Emily Henretta’s fantastic Under the Boards promotional video, which
aired at the book launch in Brooklyn and at the In These Times event in
Chicago, has been made into a shorter version containing audio for YouTube
(as part of our guerilla marketing plan). Emily is currently finalizing
the video and I’ll forward the link very soon.

More goodies to come…

Thank you for your continued interest and support.

Much love and gratitude,
Jeff
