In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful

Tips and News – www.understandquran.com – Rabi'-I, 1431

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Assalam alaikum wrwb

The Most Frequently Occurring Verb Type:

Do you know the most frequently occurring verb type in the Qur’an?  It is not from the basic trilateral forms, (i.e., fataha, nasara, etc. given in our Muharram Newsletter).  It is the 4th type of the Derived Forms, Af-‘ala.  The example to remember, along with its 6 basic conjugation/forms is: Aslama, yuslimu, Aslim, Muslim, Muslam, Islam.  Easy to remember! After all, the first thing that we have to do is to submit ourselves (Aslim!) to Allah and to follow Islam (submission to the Creator).

The number of times just 50 such words occur in the Qur’an is more than 3400!!  That is a lot! You simply can not neglect it.

80% Words of the Qur’an!

Do you want to get the list of these frequently occurring words derived from the Aslama pattern, and all other patterns?  Just visit the link on our website:

http://www.understandquran.com/dictionary/80-words.html

This booklet contains almost 500 words that occur in the Qur’an 64,000 times; i.e., almost 84% of the Qur’anic words!  It is just 9 pages of your A4 or letter size paper.  Print it and keep it as an important reference. To get more rewards, circulate it among your family and friends! Alhamdulillah, we have it in 7 languages.

Programs / Plans:

1.       Just recently we had a very successful program at Jamia Millia, Delhi.  Almost 300 brothers and 100 sisters attended the program.

2.       In Singapore, we have Br Zulkiflee Bachik (+6596996098)who teaching the course in English and Malay in various mosques.

3.       We now have a full-time coordinator, Br. Shakir, for our website and developmental support.

Website Updates (www.understandquran.com):

         Word-for-word (WFW) translation of the Qur’an in Hindi is almost complete now.  We have uploaded Paras / Juz 21-26.  The unique feature of this (and other WFW translations that we are working on in Urdu, English, and Tamil) is that the pages and lines correspond to the standard 600 page Mushaf.

Other Books/Sites:

Many people ask me about Spoken Arabic.  The best approach I feel is: First learn to speak to Allah (in the Namaz), learn to understand Him (the Qur’an) and then speak to and understand the Arab brothers!  If you learn it through this way, you can practice talking and listening (to none else than Allah) in Arabic everyday almost an hour, i.e., the total time of the 5 prayers!!  An absolutely wonderful and highly efficient path to learn Arabic.

Qur’an has almost 4500 words.  To speak in a language, you need 5000 to 7000 words.  Once you are thorough with Qur’anic vocabulary, it will not be much difficult to work on Spoken Arabic.

One of the good resources for Saudi Spoken Arabic (keeping in view of your Umrah/Hajj/Work visits) is:

And if you want to download this book free (7.8 MB), go to

http://www.archive.org/details/Fsi-SaudiArabicBasicCourse-UrbanHijaziDialect-StudentText

The book is almost 300 pages and written in an old style but I found it to be one of the best documentation on Spoken Arabic.

Let us be a team:

99% of non-Arab Muslims (almost a billion) do not understand 1% or even one line of the Qur’an. The task is huuuge.  Let us work together on this noble mission about which the Prophet pbuh said: The best of you is the one who learns and teaches the Qur’an.

Please remember us in your prayers.
