to Understand Al-Qur'an Academy

In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful

Tips and News – www.understandquran.com – Jumada-1, 1431 Hijri.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Assalam alaikum wrwb,

Here are some of the tips that we found very useful for our class.

Distinguishing between the forms of Imperfect tense (fe’l madi) and Perfect tense (fe’l mudare’):

Many people have trouble distinguishing the past and the present/future (to be precise, it is perfect and imperfect) tenses in Arabic.  One has to be really good at this because there are around 10,000 such forms in the Qur’an.

Keeping in mind the importance of this, we have developed a presentation which has two slides with images… as per the following approach:

Perfect (fe’l Madi): Work is done; it is visible (like a grown-up tree planted)… Big is noticed first.  Who did it .. is very small … so comes next.

Imperfect (fe’l Mudare’): Keep Yasir on your right and Tawfeeq on the front.  Work is not done yet.  It is either Yasir (yaf’alu) or Tawfeeq (taf’alu) or Ana (Af’alu) or Nahnu (naf’alu).  Since the work has just started (a small plant being watered), what is very clearly visible and big is the person doing it.  So yaa, taa, aa, naa take the lead and the fe’l (root letters) comes next.  Big is noticed first; small thing follows.  There is one more way to look at this: We really don’t know whether the work by Yasir, Tawfeeq, I, or we  will be completed or not.  They are to be held accountable first.

The presentation containing the illustration is attached with this Newletter.

A simple yet very useful animation for beginners

We have developed another simple yet very useful presentation with ‘animation’ for those who want to understand how the new words are formed by replacing one, two, or three letters in the basic patterns of the verb fa’ala.

Please find it in attachments.
