Cool video.  I have wondered why the boe didn't become the financial center earlier in the beginning of the 18th century with its open and explicit fractional reserve advantage.  While it was decisive in domestically funding wars with the Dutch it wasn't attracting gold as an investment yet (they got some from the Portuguese via trade).  Probably the Dutch still had superior trust as the video alludes to.  It may also have even been technically illegal to take guineas out of the country and or melt them down. This was an old law and am not sure if it was still enforced (or even enforceable).
