Dear doctors

I want to enquire about the costs for ozone therapy for my mother. She has a slipped disc problem. We had consulted at Bombay hospital but they have suggested a package which includes hospitalization also. I have done my research and it does not need any hospitalization.

I m looking for a doctor who can help in this regard without undue charges.

Request an honest advice.

Require more details about the case, as any invasive procedure needs hospitalisation.
It could be done without hospitalisation, depending upon the mode of application of ozone that is used.

I fully agree with Dr Jindal from Chandigarh. Intradiscal ozone has not found any evidence even in the well conducted studies. In all such cases where one wants to avoid surgery, the only minimally invasive procedures of credible evidence are nucleoplasty & biacuplasty, as they ablate the painful discal nerve endings as well. Another promising intervention is RFA rami communicans especially at L2 level in cases of lumbar pathology. It has shown extremely good results in my practice and as per the latest studies in this field.
The biggest reason for poor results with ozone had been its indiscriminate usage without proper patient selection. Ozone could be useful at the most in contained discs with minimal bulge with intact nucleus and that too not intradiscally but transforaminally. Overall ozone can not be suggested for disc prolapse.
Besides this, hydrocision and transforaminal endoscopic discectomy have come up with much better results even in extruded discs.

Thanks & regards

Please refer AJNR (american journal of neuroradiology) for cross refer . Ozone neucleolysis works much better when disc is not dessicated and patient's age below 45years. Needs transforaminal long acting steroid along with intradiscal Ozone. Results are fantastic when there is only radicular pain and /OR  when EHL power grade 3 and more due to PIVD

I do agree mostly with Dr Avtar Singh Matharoo.
I have done few thousands of Disc procedures with ozone, epidural steroid, percutaneous discectomy with disc decompressor, nucleoplasty, RF L2 in my Hospital and yet to find any effective procedure better over other or even over conservative management with co analgesics and exercise!.
Surgery results are even worse than conservative methods as long term relief ! I have now a list of 60 failed back surgery patients in my clinic attending regularly!!!
We have yet to search for a good option.
