Control 4 remote works to turn on TV, control volume and mute while in the DirecTV mode but no other buttons are functional. When I switch to other ancillary programs, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu, the remote works as expected.
In order to pause DirecTV, change channels, record a program; I have to use the DirecTV remote control which works exactly as it is supposed to.
All other TVs in the house use the DirecTV remote control and are working as expected.
I have booted my Control 4 remote by removing the batteries. I have booted the DirecTV DVR twice. I have booted the main router to the house. Nothing has worked.
no1 if the box is controlled via IR the flasher may have fallen off or stopped working. You can test this by putting the box on and standing in front of it and pushing buttons from Control4 to see if the IR bud flashes.
Thank you, Muj. I believe that I have found out what the issue was. It appears that the IR "bud" had fallen off of the DirecTV DVR and was not receiving the signal. I have not been able to test this yet, but it appears that is what had happened.
Thanks for following up with my question.
I am having the same problem as Eric had. Control 4 remote wont change the direct tv channel but does all other functions. The IR red light on the bud flashes when I try to change the tv channel but it wont change the channel
This is a takeover job for me on a couple of levels. First level, a dealer no longer in business. Second level, a programmer hopeful who left a lot of messes for me to clean up. Which until this project, hasn't been difficult. This is one of two major hurdles left. This is my other somewhat related issue.
The listing never had comments. The trouble with the listing you have there is that there are a bunch of sellers throwing up different 1x2 splitter models and then people comment on them without specifying who sold it to them.
I did apply your advice globally, but also using comments to verify. Yes, many complain about Amazon's nilly-willy mismatching of comments to "related products". They now seem to be adding the titles of the original products from where the comments came, which is a help.
So, is your above link the actual name of the seller "CVID", from who you found a working splitter? No point throwing away money on one without the full functionality they suggest -- Blu-ray, PS3, etc.
Like the Amazon reviews, some are finding models that once worked are not working in later shipments -- indicating different versions with less capabilities. However, someone in the last pages of the thread found that the Sewell splitter does work. It may be another good link ... at this point in time anyway. :)
Thanks for your answer. I already read all above messages from this topic and.... to be honest, I'm only a vet MD, and all this technical details are a little to much for me. I just want to buy a device that could be built-in a PC desktop (that I already own) with last gen Intel i7, W8 and tons of RAM (32 GB) and memory ( 2x 2TB).
What do you think about the Speed Demos Archive forum's thread I mentioned earlier? There's allot of activity there (regarding BlackMagic and other capture cards) and the mixed results with various splitters -- where some previously working boxes seemingly have been updated to be non-working, as regards taming HDCP.
I won't start to believe any claims of "updates" unless someone comes forward who CANNOT capture HDCP through the splitter to their BM device but CAN capture non-HDCP sources through the splitter to their BM device.
OK I have read through this and all this is very confusing and most all the links are dead because of linking to ebay, can you post links to an actual Store next time where items can be purchased or seen?
So we have a lot of projects lined up and some we still need good video for, namely Return of The Living Dead 2, I am not worried about audio because most of the titles we need for projects are only 2 channel anyways and we usually get the audio from the DVD or even the LD, in this case the LD, well I see Vudu has the HDX version available for PC download now, so how can I get this video? please if anyone knows how or can provide it to us we can make this project happen, someone was going to provide me with an how to video but he never came through, he said he does it through his PS3 somehow, but anyways any info on this would be a huge help to us and future cool projects.
I've determined the model numbers for all the cards I had listed now (not sure how I missed a couple of them in the descriptions before). So you can search on eBay ("include description") or elsewhere for those numbers.

I've yet to see a PC that plays back Netflix without a frame drop somewhere, and I'm guessing Vudu is the same. Not to say it's impossible but I don't trust computers as the source for video capturing.
Now this would be great, but I would have to buy the program and then buy the HDX video and hope it all works, wish there was a way to know for sure before all the spending, I already spend 1 hell of a lot on the projects we do lol.
I bought a 4 way splitter last week that looks exactly the same as yours, and a Timeleak hd70a. installed the card and connected the splitter and tried both pinnacle studio 15 and honestech HD DVR 2.5 and no device is being recognised.
If you purchase any iPad, or any Apple iOS device, for that matter, used/second hand, online, or even in-person, make sure this iPad does NOT have user activation lock and has been properly reset for sale.
You cannot trust that the seller actually has the correct needed info to properly reset the iPad back to factory settings right then and there before the actual purchase and exchange of money for the iPad, in question.
Thanks you. I bought this from a friend in 2016 for $200. It was fine for watching movies and showing photos. As of today, I can still watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have auto updates turned off, but sometimes even that does not prevent the apps from not working. I see the new iPad is just a few hundred dollars, so I will certainly buy new next time. Thanks again for your help.
I recently bought a Samsung UHD TV Smart TV and am using Yamaha receiver with 5.1 surround.
I had to install the optical cable from TV to Yamaha receiver and then set your receiver to
Audio-1 so you can then hear Netflix ! Good Luck
I cannot get any sound through my receiver when using netflix app from my samsung un55f6300. I am using ARC HDMI input and I tried an optical cable to the receiver. Do I need to change any settings on the tv, app or stereo? If anyone can help let me know. My receiver is a denon X400
Great article Eric, I learned a lot, and it was very clear. Method 2 works for me, but I tried method 4 with the ARC capability (tv, receiver, and hdmi cable have the capability), I activated ARC on both the tv and the receiver through the set up menus, kept my receiver on the hdmi channel, and it does not work: I still get the sound from the directv, with the image of the tv app (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) I have no idea why this does not work ?
Also, for other components (cable box, media player and blu ray player), I have a conventional setup where the components are connected to the receiver via HDMI and one HDMI cable goes from the receiver to the video in of the TV. This works well and I want to keep it the same way while being able to do the items above (Netflix and Chromecase on surround sound).
Eric, Is there any problem in using both an HDMI and a digital optical cable to get sound? How does the TV know which cable to use as sound? it seems it is the only way to get sound from my smart TV Apps and my Satellite TV to work on my surround sound. Both are wanting to use the ARC input on the receiver but I only have one ARC input on my receiver. I have a Samsung 7150 smart TV.
My new Samsung Smart TV is connected via HDMI/ARC to my AV Pioneer receiver. The TV can turn ON/OFF the receiver, and the TV can steer the receivers volume.
Problem is, that after turning both products off via the TV remote control, the receiver is turned on by itself the next day!
How is that possible?
Very helpful article. My TV has the HDMI/Arc input which I have connected from TV to cable box. I have digital optical from receiver to cable box. What do I need to do to get sound out of my surround system for the Smart apps. Little confused here.
Thanks alot for the info its simple n straight forward helped me save the hassle of connecting optical cable unnessarily to my first home theatre system denon awr-2200 and tannoy tfx 5.1 + uhd48 samsung tv..
I bought new lg tv version 55uh850t in jan 17. And i have bose home theatre 520 soundtouch system. Now the problem is when i share any video to my tv the sound does not come from my home theatre but when i switch to internal speaker of tv then sound is coming from tv. I have already connected a hdmi cable from tv(arc) to home theatre. But when i am using optical cable then sound is coming through my home theatre. This is the problem with only mobile sharing video to tv. Not with other connection. All are working fine. Pls give me a solution.
