Fwd: Volunteer Cleanup Day

Hello,

    I talked to DPW this morning and it seems like there was a better volunteer availability for tomorrow (Tuesday).  The plan is to meet at the bridge on County Road 2 by Billy Creek at 10 am.  This is right by the DPW station there and is about 2 miles south of Colona.  The water level is pretty low but waders are still a necessity I think, so bring them if you have them.   
    Also bringing a lunch is a good idea.  The forecast for tomorrow is 45 degrees and partly cloudy.  I could pick up 3 people on my way there if someone wanted a ride.  Just give me a call.

    On either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, I am waiting for DPW to set an exact date, volunteers are needed to cleanup the tires that remain on the public land near Ridgway State Park.  For various reasons the DPW has not allowed the responsible party on to the land to do it.  I think it mostly stems from them wanting oversight and control of the project.  The responsible party, however,  will be retrieving those tires removed from the streams.  As a Watershed group we have an opportunity to get out and do some work for the Uncompahgre!  It will be easiest to get these tires now, at low flow, before they head down the river again next spring when runoff starts.
    There are two sites; one with only a few tires on it and another with around 100 hundred tires.  Depending on volunteer turnout we will create a plan to best utilize our time.  Perhaps more than one day is needed.  The tires are also in the streams so some volunteers  with waders are needed.
    Please respond either by email or by phone (773-726-0105) if you are able to come out and help.  Also if you have waders!  I will send out another email when DPW confirms which day.  I just wanted to give a heads up.
