Uncompahgre River Habitat Assessment results
In October 2010, twenty volunteers joined the UWP in a full 8-hour day of visiting sites along the Uncompahgre River from Ouray to Delta to assess the health of the riparian habitat. At the April 2011 meeting, analyzed data will be ready to present in a “report card” of the river’s physical health.
5. Psych up for the
Abandoned Mines & Water Quality Conference
Next week at the Ouray Community Center on Wednesday, April 27 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Mountain Studies Institute & the UWP are hosting this conference for community members and regional partners to learn about the impact of historic mining on water quality and how neighboring communities have worked to restore their watersheds. Come learn what is in our water, why we should care, and what can be done about it, through a series of enriching presentations and a dynamic panel discussion.
Admission is $25 and will include dinner catered by the Secret Garden. Thursday morning the UWP Mining Committee meeting will meet at 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Ouray Community Center to reflect on the Conference. Everyone is welcome!
Directions to the Ridgway Community Center: 201 N. Railroad, Ridgway.
The Community Center shares the building with Ridgway Town Hall, and is neighbored by the Fire Department on Railroad Street. Railroad street is located off of Sherman St/US-62 by the Town Park and Tennis Courts, across from the Cimarron Bookstore & Coffeehouse.
I hope to see you many of you there, as this is my last Stakeholder Meeting with the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership. It has been a wonderful year to grow alongside this blossoming organization. Thank you all for your support! I will miss the Uncompahgre Watershed dearly.
