Dr. Ross frames classic cyber security for many as being a one-dimensional, penetration resistance strategy. We build the wall of safeguards as high as we can build it and constantly react to the latest threats and vulnerabilities. It gets overwhelming. And even if we maintain the essential cyber hygiene and do everything right, 5-10% of cyber-attacks are still going to get through.
In his first episode, he talked about how to build a strong cyber resilience strategy and four goals to help achieve that. He also discusses four goals to help build a strong cyber strategy that include:
I thought this was poignant and could also be used in personal goals as well. Planning for setbacks and being prepared, and making adjustments/tweaking little things (instead of just throwing in the towel after one skipped meal or bad day) based on the information you have.

I recently updated my computer's operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I'm now facing problems when trying to update my ESET Internet Security and always get an error message "ESET internet security Module update failed undocumented serious error (0x4002)."
The current version of the software is 11.1.42.0 and the latest available version is 12.2.31.0. The update runs for some time and ends with the error message mentioned above. I had cleared the cache by clicking F5 key, but that does not seem to help. My license is valid till July 2023. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Hello Marcos, thanks a lot for your reply. I apologize for the delay in replying back but my mother is seriously ill, is bedridden, and has multiple bed-sores. I spend most of my time attending to her. I did download the latest version of ESET Internet Security and tried to install it but received an error "installed on too many devices."
The motherboard of one of my PC crashed on March 10 2022 and I had to replace it with a new one and had to reinstall ESET Internet Security again using the provided license key. For quite some time I have been noticing that ESET displays an error message that it no longer supports Windows 7. Since I have an old hard disk drive I decided to install an additional SSD drive and installed Windows 10 on it and, reinstalled ESET on it, and typed in the serial number, only to get the error message (installed on too many devices. I believe that your system is detecting these two instances (of changing the motherboard and adding a SSD) as "installation on additional devices."
The strange part is that if I unplug the SSD (with Windows 10 installed) from the motherboard and launch my PC using the old drive (Windows 7), your product runs smoothly. If required, I can provide the screenshot of the same or even allow you to access my computer using a remote controlling software such as "Anydesk" so that you can confirm that my license is valid.
Later on, I removed all traces of ESET Internet Security from my PC (including all traces from the registry). However, one file still remains on the drive and I am unable to remove it even after trying different methods. Please advise how I can remove the file. Also, please restore my license so that I can use it to activate the new version of ESET Internet Security using my original license. Hoping to get a positive response from you. Thanks a lot in advance.
Hi Marcos, thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I'll download the "ESET uninstall tool" in a few minutes, run it in safe mode. Once uninstalled, I'll install ESET as suggested. However, what about my license key? I'll be waiting for your reply. I'm also including a couple of images for diagnostic purposes. You can see that the "uninstall option" is faded in one of them. Thanks once again.
Since ESET cannot be uninstalled via the Control panel due to the fatal error, you'll need to resort to using the ESET Uninstall tool in safe mode. That way you can remove ESET if the standard uninstallation fails for whatever reason.
I have a computer running Windows 10 Home that had an installation of Eset Internet Security probably version 16.x that is a general use office computer. I was going to do regular maintenance on this computer when I noticed that there was no tray icon for Eset and so I went to Control Panel / Programs and Features and attempted to do a repair install of the software. Any attempt to repair or uninstall the software results in this message "User installations are disabled via policy on the machine" however this computer is not part of a domain and group policy is not in use on it. I searched with Google and there are plenty of instances of people reporting this problem but none of the solutions provided seem to work, I used the stand alone log collector to get the logs and they are attached. How can I fix this and get Eset working again?
I've had to do that in a couple cases over the last couple years but what worries me is the "User installations are disabled via policy on the machine" because I could end up not being able to reinstall because of that and I have to fix that first. Also if I fix that then a normal repair installation should work and not be blocked.
The repair option is unavailable for security reasons. You can upgrade to a newer version or uninstall the existing one. You have version 14.2, newer versions offer config export and remove options only:
That's the thing I don't understand, I used GPEdit to check the policy key that controls that User Installations Disabled and it wasn't configured and I set it to disabled anyway and it made no difference.
No not yet, I wanted to see if there was first a way to repair this first and I usually associate this kind of error with malware activity. Btw I've run Malwarebytes and the Eset online scan and haven't turned up anything.
I'll give it a try but Eset has been installed and working for years when this problem started, my biggest concern it what I mentioned above. Suppose this problem represents Malware or virus activity despite the scans coming back negative, I remove Eset and then can't reinstall because I'm still getting this message that leaves me with a virus infected computer with no anti-virus software.
I'm in Pickering Ont. Until 2 days ago I never even saw a message about lockouts - now I have been locked out of both my email accounts on Rogers Yahoo at least 5 times for an hour each time claiming some gibberish about security
It is concerning that your email is constantly getting locked out. That doesn't seem right. Please let us know if you are still having issues accessing your Rogers email account at this time or if you were able to get this matter resolved.
This problem stopped (Nov 10) as suddenly as it had started - it did not occur all day yesterday (Nov 9) and not so far today. I have no idea why as I did not change anything. In any case it is solved - at least for now.
This is ridiculous. Please don't waste my time with more level one ideas. I reboot every day and stay current with patches and security. I'm attempting to log in the same way I have for years. Something has changed and, following basic change control, someone at Rogers should know about it.
Yes Jessowen2 and after 4 months mine is still doing it - but I don't feel like going around in circles being transferred among Rogers people so they can pretend it is the first they heard of the problem - so I endure - (until my contract ends) - all because of some over zealous security freaks idea of safety.
