Onmy fully updated Ubuntu 18.04.3 system, audio doesn't work unless I switch between outputs. When I boot my PC, the right output (stereo speakers) is already selected by default, but there is no audio from Chromium, Firefox, VLC or any other program. However, the GNOME speakers test works. I can hear "front left" and "front right" from there, but no audio from other programs. In order to fix that, I can simply switch to another audio output (e.g. HDMI out) and then switch back to the stereo speakers, and the audio will magically work. Any idea why? It's not a big deal because it takes a couple of seconds to switch between outputs, but it's kind of annoying to do that after every reboot.
This will reload ALSA sound driver modules in case they were modified by an upgrade, reinstall or install for example and the old ones are still in use as users tend to avoid reboots sometimes or do not think a reboot is needed after such upgrades.

2) Once machine has booted, run RDAlsaConfig. This can be found under Rivendell > Admin in the application menus. You will be asked for a password. This is your CentOS user password, not your Rivendell Admin password.
3) You should now see something similar to this. In this case we are installing an Audigy FX card into the machine and the default option for installed device worked first time. You may however need to work your way down the list of available devices until you find the one that works.
4) Once you have saved the configuration in RDAlsaConfig, you can check that it has worked by going into the Rivendell Admin program and selecting the host you are working on from the list of hosts. Select Edit and then go to the Audio Resources button. You should now see your device listed under Card 0 with 1 Input and 3 (or 4 on some cards) outputs. if you don't, go back to stage 2 and try a different available device.
5) You can now go into the item you wish to assign the audio outputs to and set the output ports. For example, my RDLibrary looks like this with the audio coming out the 3rd output (it goes 0,1,2 not 1,2,3)
6) Lastly, check that all of the outputs are turned up in AlsaMixer. To get to this, open a Terminal in CentOS and type alsamixer at the command prompt. This will open the Alsa Mixer panel. Press F6 and select the correct soundcard. You can now set the output levels. You are looking for Front (1st O/P), Surround (2nd O/P) , Center and LFE (3rd O/P). These control the output levels of the different output sockets on the card. The Master level also controls the master level of all of the outputs. Once set you can escape from this.
I want to use the external hardware as Send Effect for my vocal track. If I add an SEND effect I just see the analogue INs and OUTs of my sound device. Do I have to register the external one to get it working? The strange thing is if I play one track in Ardour I can see some input signal on the external reverb. The sync LED is showing that the external device is synced.
The Fast Track Pro is like two devices in one box. In qjackctl, you have to select the in- and outputs you want to use. For example: Your on-board sound chip is hw:0, the Fast Track is hw:1. If you want to use output 1 and 2, use hw:1,0 (this configuration has no inputs!). If you want both inputs and output 3 and 4, choose hw:1,1.
get a realtime kernel. I originally installed ubuntu-studio which came with a low lat kernel because ubuntustudio comes with tons of sound apps out of the box. As soon as the install was done, I actually changed my system quite a lot : installed a realtime kernel (compiled myself, using 2.6.23-rc2) + upgraded quite a few things (basically, switched to gutsy).
PS:
I have a very stable system, except for a few ardour crashes (using 2.0.5) due to heavy gui manipulations (it seems to me that crashes occur when I use zoom in/out too fast but sometimes, it also happens just by changing the name of a track). Fortunately, these crashes are rare and everything is recovered except for 2 or 3 few editing actions, not too dramatic.
A short time after the game is connected or disconnected SimHub will reset all the connected audio interface, this is intended to workaround VR headsets changing audio settings on the fly and breaking secondary audio outputs. You can change these settings (delay and behaviour) from the advanced output options dialog (Starting from Simhub 7.4.3) :
I have a Xonar AE, have attempted to set it up as speakers and secondary soundcard for communication, been through every settings on the audio panel and there is no page to set up the sound card as individual outputs, contacted ASUS support and have been fobbed off at every turn, they keep stating the software has to support this but thats rubbish, when you select speakers it disables headphones making it not selectable in TeamSpeak, when you select headohones it turns off the speakers so you no longer get sound out of your speakers, tried multiple ways to map out the audio but none work, if i enable my realtek onboard soundcard, that allows me to do all these things straight away, so its not a windows problem, nor is it a software problem, its a badly written driver problem, it seems the driver you released (2 YEARS AGO) does not work correctly within windows 11, now i know you are going to try and tell me its my equipment, i can guarantee it most deffinately is not, been building pc's since the Pentium pro was released (around 34 years), i know what im talking about when i say something does not work how it supposed to i wont just go away, ill make noise till somebody fixes said problem, had the same around 10 years back with Creative labs, selling a soundblaster audigy as an x-fi, they eventually replaced my soundcard as they falsely advertised the item as an X-FI, now you are doing the same here advertising the Xonar AE as a gaming soundcard, when it does not function as so.
contacted ASUS support & the support guy kept stating i could select both in windows settings, but when you select the speaker in the sonic studio app, the headphones vanish, when you select the headphones the speakers vanish
this is the windows audio panel with headphones and speakers connected, your driver disables the speakers when headphones is set to default & disables the headphones when speakers are selected as default, so the soundcard does not function as a gaming soundcard, as gamers require the communication device for applications such as TeamSpeak.
i know the reason it does not work how its supposed to, its because you can not deselect digital out as a sound device, windows only allows 2 devices and because you cant deselect digital out as an audio output so it disables the headphone socket, i can set digital out as a communication device but thats not really of any use, this is without a doubt the cause of the issue
When you're using Realtek Audio, are you connecting a single output device (such as headphones or speakers), or are you simultaneously connecting two output devices, one to the front audio output and another to the rear audio output?
im connected to the Xonar AE soundcard only, connected headphones and speakers & mic, not got any other device enabled, the problem is you cant use the headphones and speakers synchronously, every other soundcard allows the headphone to be set as a secondary device, the reason this is a problem is due to the spdif output being set as a default audio output permanently & it can not be disabled, the other problem is the sonic studio panel is running scripts from windows 8(the manifest files), the drivers are windows 10 based, never been a windows 11 driver released, its not really good enough considering its not a cheap sound card, the c-media sound chip can do this as it is on other soundcards & is capable of synchronous ouput, the problem lies with not being able to disable the spdif output as default device.
MIDI is an acronym for MusicalInstrument Digital Interface. The MIDI specification is maintained by the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). We havewritten a couple of short starter tutorials on MIDI:
This involves sending specific MIDI channels to specific MIDI ports. If you have Windows 95 or 98 you can use the MIDI Mapper, and we've written a tutorial explaining how to use it:Using Multiple MIDI Output Devices with Windows 95/98.
Unfortunately, Microsoft removed much of the functionality of the MIDI Mapper in later versions of Windows, and Band-in-a-Box itself cannot output to more than one port at a time. One thing you can do is save your song as a MIDI file and play it with PowerTracks Pro Audio, which does allow you to assign each track to a different MIDI port.
