Wolvesweren't the only ones who braved the frigid weather on Thursday to observe the moon, as skywatchers across the globe bundled up and went hunting for incredible images of Earth's lunar companion.

Astronomer and founder of the Virtual Telescope Project Gianluca Masi caught a highly detailed image of the Wolf Moon from Italy. In the photograph, the light and dark patches of the lunar surface are clearly visible.

The moon appears to have a more yellow hue as seen in a Wolf Moon image taken by Davide Pischettola, also from Italy. The image shows January's full moon shining over the branches of the Murgia trees near the southern Italian city of Andria, which is known for its produce of wine, olives, and almonds.

AI student and photographer Anas took to x to post several incredible images of the Wolf Moon from Islamabad Pakistan. One striking picture by the X user shows the moon appearing to be the heart of an exloping cloud of gas that resembles the nebulas that surround dying stars after they are rocked by supernova explosions.

Snapping the Wolf Moon wasn't the only reason to brave the cold on Thursday. The manin draw for these fishermen in Colombo was catching a bite, with the January full moon providing some added illumination.

The Wolf Moon wasn't just captured next to stunning natural features by skywatchers on Thursday. January's full moon was also seen next to some intriguing man-made constructions, both old and new.

The image below was taken by Thilina Kaluthotage and shows the first full moon of 2024 rising next to a tower in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in a dark and muddy-looking smoggy sky.

Back in the UK, John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, was able to catch a snap of the Wolf moon shining brightly over Worcester Cathedral. The Bishop posted his image on X feed writing: "Worcester Cathedral always looks good with a full moon, and this year's 'Wolf Moon' was no exception."

If these incredible Wolf Moon images have got you hungry to capture the next fully illuminated lunar face for yourself, you won't have to wait too long. The next full moon, the second of 2024, is the Snow Moon, which rises on Feb. 24.

Ready to read through the month of January? There's no better way to connect with your kids than to cozy up under a blanket, sip tea, and enjoy a stack of well-chosen picture books. Many of the books this month are winter-themed (about snow, hibernation, harvesting maple syrup), but you'll also find books about music, classic stories that just can't be missed, and a handful of true stories that will warm your heart.

I've been thinking a lot again lately about being in the season you are in and this quote really hits home. Rather than fighting against it, I'm embracing the winter darkness, the desire to hibernate and rest, the coziness. I know the light will come back again - the past teaches me that it always does.

We had eaten dinner early, around 5:30pm, which is always my preference whenever possible. On this particular evening only one of the kids had a later activity and Aaron was off picking him up. Some nights are more full of people coming in and out at different times or there's driving around picking up and dropping off. It's the season we are in with this awesome group. Other nights, as you might know, are just me and Aaron. Sometimes he does music late into the evening and I read or work and other evenings we watch a show or go out to dinner.

I found the girls playing legos. This is their activity of choice right now outside of screen time (they get an hour a day on week days) and it's so fun to see and hear them play together. They've been the beneficiary of three older brothers legos along with lots of their own.

I found Simon at the kitchen table researching good and evil references for a Star Wars book he's reading called Tarkin. I love how he uses the internet to learn and research and get answers to questions he has about all kinds of things. I love that he wants to tell me about what he learns. The ways he makes connections between things (movies, etc) is so, so awesome.

As for me, I was just starting my yoga practice for the evening. I've been doing Yoga With Adrienne's 30 Days Of Yoga Dedicate series. It's so good. Last year when I did her 30 day series in January I did it most days before I started work in my office. This year I've found myself doing it in the evening in my bedroom. Showing up. Rolling out the mat. Making it happen.

These simple stories are the best. I LOVE seeing Anna and Audrey building with legos. As the mom of a 19-year-old son, the picture of you and Simon reading side by side makes my heart SMILE. I also LOVE that you ask permission to take his photo, and he is agreeable:)

The am / pm in her handwriting was part of a past Story Kit. The digital versions of past story kits are only available twice a year (May and November, I think). Not sure if she's ever done numbers in her handwriting...

I'm a fan of winter, always have been. I feel it's like a warm hug, or a cup of hot chocolate. It allows you to slow. The rain last night was heavy, something therapeutic in its sound as it bounces off the roof.

My OLW for 2018 was BALANCE and I loved the journey with it. My quote was 'Life is a balance of holding on and letting go', and I realised that in order to achieve my goals I had to let go of the idea of fitting it all in, all the time. I let go of what wasn't important at that time and focused on what was. This is such a great lesson and reminder to keep doing that.

It's time to snuggle up beside a cozy fire (or a faux fire on your smartboard) and get ready to read some winter themed tales in your classroom! This list of 20 January read alouds is sure to bring some warmth to your lesson plans this month. Take a look below at my list of favorite January read alouds for kids to help you with your lesson plans this month!

In this classic tale by Jan Brett, a little boy's lost mitten leads him on an adventure in the snow! Wonderful January read aloud with beautiful illustrations and is perfect for classroom retelling activities. One of the best picture books ever written.

Just what do snowmen do at night? They go to work of course! While we're all sleeping they're busy working as dentists, construction workers, teachers and more! Head over here to see our unit on a day in the life of a snowman. Students love visiting the snowman village and trying out different snowman jobs!

January is the perfect month to revisit your classroom rules as you come back from winter break. This is a story about Isabella, whose voice is so loud her nickname is Decibella! We use this children's book to review appropriate voice level in different areas of our school. Head over here to see the full lesson and how I used this book in my classroom.

This is a wonderful book that is perfect for Christmas or the winter months. In the story a family goes out into the woods to decorate a tree with popcorn, oranges and other treats for the animals. Beautiful story of giving to others.

Wonderful January read aloud about a little girl who braves a huge snowstorm to deliver a special package to the duchess. Its a great book to use when teaching students about perseverance and where there's a will there's a way!

In this book a teacher and her class end up having to spend the night at one of the student's homes due to a blizzard. It's a great conversation starter for your kindergarten or 1st grade classroom and story starter for your narrative writing lessons!

When the town of Geopolis is buried in a snowstorm, little Katie the plow comes to the resuce. Katy can do a lot of things and helps the town as a bulldozer and reparing the roads. But one winter Katy is put to the test when she has to dig out everyone! The doctor can't see patients. The firemen can't put out fires. But Katy comes to the rescue!

This is one of my all time favorite books for January. Have you ever dreamed about what would happen if you got snowed in at school? Well, that's what happens to the kids at Pokeweek Public School. This book is the perfect mentor text for the narrative writing prompt What would you do if you were snowed in at school?
