Luckily, Duolingo Plus, our subscription option, allows users to download lessons for offline use. You can download lessons and practice sessions in advance to learn without an internet connection. Your progress is uploaded once you go back online, so you can keep your precious streak!
Duolingo Plus subscribers and FREE learners can now access lessons offline in the Android and iOS app. After activating your subscription, you only need to download the lessons to your device and start studying offline.
I moved onto the paid version during my first year, just before going on holiday. I couldn't guarantee my destination had an Internet connection, and at the time the paid version gave offline lessons (and unlimited hearts / lives). At the time this cost 80 per year, personally I consider that money well spent.

Besides disliking the differences between the experience, and the removal of features such as offline lessons, for the most part I'm pretty happy with Duolingo. I'd love to see a search feature though, so if I want to get to lessons on a particular verb or topic it's easier.
Duolingo has an offline feature also and they allow you to complete a couple of lessons offline. Once you get online, your progress is uploaded. I wanted to see if there is a way to upload a back-dated progress to Duolingo. Fortunately, I had Duolingo installed on my tablet and it was offline at that time. So, I changed the date and time settings from 5th March 2018 to 4th March 2018, on my tablet as below:

I don't think it is some parallel web sessions because he was "offline" during hours before his last action: he just connects (green circle on the user) and make his move.
I don't think it is some bug on the servers with the lags, repeating points for a single lesson, ... It one of that was the case it will be in someway uncontrollable, and whatever he does, he does on purpose, with the points he just needs and at very precise moments.

As I was researching this very question, I saw a Duolingo blog post (or "news" item on their site) that said now everyone, not just paid members, gets a few downloaded lessons at a time. This occurs automatically as you work on a lesson, and your next lesson will auto-load onto your device. So probably you were working on downloaded offline lessons then just ran out of downloaded content.

To do speech recognition offline, the speech recognition engine must be embedded within the browser. This is possible and we may do it eventually, but it is not currently planned for Firefox.
