After FB sent me a notification about "suspicious activity" (login from unknown location - which was ME) I had to change my password to Facebook and Messenger. Now I can't login on the desktop app... I have deleted and re-installed the app, but it's just saying "opening" and nothing happens...

Thanks! I did that. But now I'm having problems again because Facebook logged me off (again) due to so-called "security issues"... I'm able to log into FB and see my Messenger in the browser, but my desktop Messenger app is not working... it says "getting started" and nothing happens. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but it didn't help...

I'm able to open Messenger in Safari on Messenger.com. And I can click "open Messenger for Mac" in the bottom. Then the app is opening and displaying "opening" but nothing happens... I have reported this issue to Facebook. But I'm wondering because I can't be the only one having this problem with the desktop app for Mac?...

Now more than ever, people are using technology to stay in touch with the people they care about, even when physically apart. Over the past month, we saw more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger. Now with apps for MacOS and Windows, the best of Messenger is coming to desktop, including unlimited and free group video calls.

You can download Messenger for Desktop to easily access the desktop app. The program automatically launches when users start up their operating systems. This application is convenient for those who communicate a lot in Facebook Messenger, as there's no need to pick up mobile phones or open a new tab within a web browser to open the app and answer messages.

Above the search bar, members can generate a new message by clicking on the pencil and paper icon. The settings section is in the upper left corner of the user interface. Adjacent to the left panel is the current conversation window. To toggle between messages, you just simply click on a different discussion within the list on the left. The name of the active messenger will be displayed in the upper portion of the screen.

The secure and private Wire messenger app with end-to-end encryption is a great open source alternative for Whatsapp, Skype, Viber, WeChat, FB Messenger, Telegram. You don't need a cell phone number to login. These feature were attracting me and I can use it on almost all platforms (Linux. Android. iOS. Mac. Windows.) inclusive within the most common browsers.

Facebook is looking to help Messenger desktop users celebrate the holiday season with a new set of AR effects, filters, and 360-degree backgrounds, the first effects of their type to be added to the desktop version of the app.

Users have been able to add AR effects within their regular, in-app Messenger interactions for some time, with Facebook adding 360-degree backgrounds in the app back in April. Now, they'll be available in the desktop version as well, with a range of seasonal options - as explained by Facebook:

Facebook announced the full roll-out of the desktop version of Messenger back in April, after testing it out in selected markets earlier in the year. At that time, Facebook noted that it had seen a more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger, as they sought to stay connected during the pandemic. Given this, Facebook sought to provide more dedicated tools to cater to the increased demand - and with COVID-19 set to keep families apart during the holidays, that will no doubt see Messenger desktop usage increase again over the next few weeks.

"To access any of the holiday filters and effects simply open the Messenger app on your desktop and start a video call, create a room, or open the Messenger camera. Click on the smiley face icon to see the filters and backgrounds tabs."

it closes the webview in iOS, but pops an alert when i try from desktop. My domain is white-listed, messenger_extensions = true and i enter the page from the desktop messenger and it still doesn't work.

I had before the same problem, but opposite (window closed on desktop, but not on iOS) while trying to use fetch(), and this problem started when started using $.ajax()before MessengerExtensions.requestCloseBrowser() was invoked from a fetch's promise, and now it's invoked from ajax's success function.

A day later an error code of 2071011 started to show up, again, only in desktop browsers.I managed to find a workaround the problem by using window.top.close(); when MessengerExtensions.requestCloseBrowser() failsIt does the same trick on Chrome and asks the user before close on Edge

Same exact issue. I'm on Windows 11 latest. Started with the native app downloaded from messenger. com. It refuses ALL keyboard input in the app. I've tried everything. I uninstalled it and installed the Messenger app from the Microsoft Store and it was working fine for about a week, and now it is also not accepting any keyboard input.

Screen sharing permits us to share the desktop content from our computers, such as documents, spreadsheets, screenshots, etc. It is a real-time application. It operates as a fast, simple, and free way to share your screen instantly.

Activate, the remote desktop icon turns green in color, you can view the desktop of the user you are chatting with.
If the connection fails, the alert message Unable to connect is displayed.

Just looking for a widget-type of application to display ontop of any game I'm playing so I can talk on FB messenger while I play. I know Overwolf supported this for a while but it's a bit bloated for me and no longer supports the Facebook API. Anyone know of any good solutions for this?

Facebook just launched a new desktop Messenger app for Windows and MacOS, allowing you to chat or video call your friends without opening your browser. This is a timely release, and it should help families and friends stay connected without coordinating a confusing Zoom or Google Hangouts chat.

You won't be surprised to hear this, but video calls through Facebook Messenger have gone up two-fold over the past month. The company's decision to release Facebook Messenger for desktop won't matter to most users, but it's welcome news for anyone who's tired of their doomsday-era Facebook feed. Now you can socialize without falling down the rabbit hole of Facebook posts and news stories! Yay!

The new Facebook Messenger desktop app will look familiar to Messenger users, and includes options for Dark Mode and GIFs. The app allows you to mute or snooze notifications and will sync chats across devices. Like the browser version of Facebook, the desktop Messenger app is totally free.

There is a difference between the mobile and desktop versions of the same apps, though. Most PC apps are simplified versions of the mobile ones, meaning that you won't be able to enjoy all the functions that are available on smartphones. For instance,

This chat app is available in mobile and desktop versions and also features a simplified web app that you can use directly in your browser - an excellent option for users who want to connect from any possible platform. WhatsApp Desktop is available to download from the Microsoft Store.

WeChat Desktop has an intuitive yet basic user interface. Don't expect any bells and whistles, nor access to all features and functionalities the app offers on mobile. While the mobile app offers a plethora of features, such as sending money, sharing locations, and updating your moments, you won't be able to access any of these from the desktop.

Businesses rely on social media to promote themselves, communicate with potential clients, and even close new deals. With Facebook being the most popular social media platform in the world, it only makes sense to use it on a desktop to keep in touch with your contacts.

The Messenger's desktop interface is very similar to that of the mobile app. You can start chats with any of your Facebook contacts or new people. Video conferencing doesn't require your contacts to have a Facebook account - you can ask them to join the online meeting via a link.

Like WhatsApp, Messenger is easy to install on any desktop. Download it from Messenger.com and click the setup file after the download. The configuration wizard starts automatically, and you won't have to do anything until you're prompted to log in.

The desktop version of the mobile app allows you to stay connected from all devices. The only annoying thing is that once installed, the desktop app opens in your browser rather than in a separate window.

Slack Desktop requires users to download and install an app that should open in a separate window like all other communication apps for Windows we mentioned above. In reality, the desktop app gets stuck on the login page.

Clicking the login button opens a new tab in the browser, requiring users to access their accounts. From here, you can access the various workspaces and communicate with your teams - but the entire system voids the purpose of a desktop app.

Telegram's desktop app has an intuitive interface, albeit a bit different-looking than on mobile. Installing it is useful if this is your main communication app as it mirrors communication across all platforms and offers features like group chats, channels, and folders that help organize communication.

Initially beloved by gamers, Discord today allows business managers and teams to create various channels with different levels of permissions for various users. You can use the app on desktop and mobile, and even on game consoles.

This is where Mailbird comes in. The desktop app was born to help users manage multiple email accounts in one place, but it can do much more than that, not least, integrating with Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Slack.

If you were to take a look at my web browser, you'd see that it's always filled with too many tabs. Because of that, I try to separate certain services from the web browser and use desktop clients instead.
