Subject: [Virginia SDS Announcement] Bring It: Student Organizer's Weekend, Oct 22-24th

Hey everyone, I know this is going on during the convention, but I figured I'd send it anyway.

Its being held at the Wayside Center for Popular Education, a brand new movement space in Nelson County VA that seeks to follow in the footsteps of the Highlander Center and Southern radicals like Ella Baker.  I hope some of yall will consider coming out, I'm giving a workshop on Student Unionism which I'm really excited about.

Bring It: Student Organizer's Weekend
October 22-24 - Arrive Friday evening for dinner, leave Sunday afternoon and head home

Regional gathering of student organizers to learn skills and strategy. Plan Big. Go Big. Bring it! Get down to the Wayside for a weekend of skills, strategy, and campfire scheming. Workshops will include:

* Campus Campaign Strategy
* Direct action
* Student unionism
* How to Get a Group Started
* Facilitation, consensus and group dynamics
* "Rocketshops" on media and art skills.

Registration is sliding scale $50-150. We encourage you to use university funds as much as possible in order to cover expenses. Tap into student club funds, departmental funds, and any other university cash you have access to. Delicious food and comfy beds will be provided. Please let us know any dietary restrictions when you register. Alcohol not provided by Wayside. Campfire is a go.

Also, we encourage campus groups to do some research before getting down to Wayside on the history of student organizing on your campus. What kinds of issues and resistance has defined campus organizing at your school? What are some past victories? Unmet demands? Ongoing engagement? Bring stories and history with for a collaborative history telling session.

Food provided. Alcohol not provided.

Contact virginia(at)waysidecenter.org for more info and to learn how to REGISTER!
