As a followup to our conversation yesterday -- maybe attending this to see what it's all about wouldn't be such a bad idea? I work on Thursdays, but if anyone else is curious...

The Office of Student Affairs is pleased to host the International Student Brown Bag Lunch on Thursday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m. in the Ehrlicher Room.  Carolyn Madden and Theresa Rohlck from the English Language Institute (ELI) will present information about the ELI, and will facilitate a question and answer period.

All are welcome to attend.  Feel free to contact me by email at tod...@umich.edu if you have any questions.  Don't forget to bring your lunch and come prepared to ask questions!

I'd agree, but that'd be stepping on the toes of the panelists; unless you are saying we should attend to see from the panelists perspectives what are some common issues and resources available to help the kids in our group?

assuming we obtain the resources, the next part could be similar to asking someone to see a counselor; if they aren't ready for it, it just comes off weird. le sigh, it's a funny social game we play (include my own assumptions of how things are play out)

Well, I was just suggesting going and listening and seeing what sorts of information they talk about -- I hadn't thought about any courses of action just yet. I was just curious about these brown bags and what they are like.

I'm not sure that's what Ying was suggesting. It sounds like there's plenty of room for hearing what resources are available and asking questions as to how they're helping everyone productively adapt. And it's certainly one of the only forums I've seen where raising the issues we discussed yesterday would be appropriate.

very true, point taken.  Sorry if I came off abrasive or disregarding the suggestion.  I agree, more forums and resources and asking questions on how to help everyone adapt will be helpful.  I'll see how much work I get done tonight for the 4 reports I have to write by Tuesdays.  (eek! but I got coffee!)
