Yay, it seems our product is receiving an outstanding reception, students and staff alike.  Thank you all for being there today to present our work to Laura and Joanna.  From what I gathered, it seems like they are interested in using this and turning it into a live product.  A definite resume and portfolio piece to add that a grassroots product we have been working on as a team was taken up by the school (and really could be used to ground any potential data strategy for the OSA / CDO).

And I can follow-up with them to see how we can arrange for at least one paid position to work on this in the Fall.  Does anybody have any work plans / part-time work lined up for fall? If not, let me know if you'd be interested in working to make a position out of this.  (I still don't know my fall schedule and like I said, I definitely plan on using this for classes so I don't feel the need for compensation and would rather have me and at least one other work on this)

As for the short-term, I'll make arrangements to meet with Heather (and possibly Michael Hess) to see their point of view from a strategy point of view as an automated system.  I feel like I might even have to arrange a meeting with Judy and Tom, associate deans, to really get UMSI to think about it's data strategy for student-facing services, but we will get there when we get there.

for now, enjoy the summer! thanks for all your hard work, the site looks, feels, and works fantastically!  As the next semester approaches, I'll reach out to all of y'all again to reconnect and see if this might fit into your schedule.

Ying, mind emailing me the demo links that you choose? the ones we viewed today have the most complete look and I'd like to continue using that path for any future meetings.

Please keep in touch and see y'all around!
Edgar

I'd like to meet you with and Heather, if we can do it in May.

I would rather the data strategy meeting with the deans be under your own umbrella, Edgar, and not be necessarily linked to UMSI/Path as an entity. But others might think differently?

k.

Best,
Kimberly

May sounds great for the Heather meeting. Do you know if you'll prefer early / mid May and have a day of the week preference?

The data one might be me being ambitious and seriously what do I know but I don't mind whipping the school into shape (or at least my perception of it).. that or I just can't be satisfied.. haha. but yeah, I'll leave that one alone until I do more research and get a better grasp myself.

I'm not quite sure if this is in line with Kimberly's comment, but maybe a compromise -- I think the data issue is a larger umbrella (definitely the friggin School of Information needs a friggin data strategy), but you could maybe use UMSI/Discover as an example of the big issues we ran into due to lack of data strategy?

^ What the Ying-lady said. UMSI/Discover isn't Fight Club...yet.

Edgar, I think I'm going to be working Monday through Thursday, so anytime after 3:30 except for May 7, 8, and 16.

Best,
Kimberly

Woops, forgot to send this bit:

Website walkthrough:

Starting with the search by skill, select:
Records Management
Management of Archives
XML
Digital Preservation

Comment on how the classes appear multiple times under different skills (so people know the class teaches several things they want, blah blah).

Click on 581: Preservation Administration to show course page

Go to search by career, select:
Museum Curator
Reference Archivist
Audiovisual Archivist

Click on skill "Digital Preservation" to show skill page
