Hello UMREG volunteers and friends,
So it's that time of year again and the gang over here at UMREG are starting to plan and organize some events and activities for Environmental Awareness Week (EAW) 2007. We have scheduled EAW to happen the week of January 29th - February 2nd. This thursday, November 16th at 4:30 we are having a general meeting to continue planning and organizing this event and all of you are invited to come and contribute your ideas or find out how you can help. I will be sending out meeting minutes, so if you can't make the meeting don't worry.
An event happening more recently is Buy Nothing Day on November 25th. Unfortunately this is a saturday but if anyone wants to help plan an event for the friday at the University feel free to let us know. Events in the past have included a free-store, potluck and anti-fashion fashion show. Here's a website with some details about BND and what other countries do for it.
http://www.adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/So if we can't organize any activities in time at the very least we encourage y'all to not buy anything on November 25th (24 wholes hours) and think about how your consumption of goods affects the environment.
This friday, November 17th at 3:30pm, the Park Theatre (
698 Osborne) is having a free screening of An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's film about climate change. All are welcome to attend. Also the Cinematheque Theatre (
304-100 Arthur) is showing the film Who Killed the Electric Car? at 9pm until thursday, unfortunately this movie isn't free.
Hope to see everyone at the meeting. Take care.
Peace, love and recycling,
UMREG
