I am happy with our results and expect we will do even better next year. Before I get too ahead of myself though I would like to let you know what UMREG has planned for the near future. This thursday, October 12th, we are having our weekly meeting from 5-6:30 and then afterwards from 6:30 to 7:30 we would like to have a potluck for all volunteers who want to propose/formulate/discuss a plan of action, project, or interest in the environmental sustainability of the U of M campus. Both meetings will be held in 180 Helen Glass, which is the Student Group Resource Centre. You are all welcome to come to both meetings if you want to get an idea of how we operate, but I know it's getting close to midterms and your time is precious, so it's not imperative that you attend the UMREG meeting. Also I realize this is kind of short notice, so if you do think you can attend the meeting could you please send us back a quick email saying yes I will come and whether or not you can bring a potluck item (again not a requirement, but treats are nice (we usually recommend bringing a vegan item because then most people can partake in the treats)). If there isn't enough response I will reschedule.
As far as the meeting agenda goes, it will depend on where people's interests lie. We have loads of ideas for projects/initiatives and there are so many ways this campus could be more sustainable so I don't think we will be short on goals. Some ideas or issues to get you started thinking include:
1. Lug-a-mug days
2. Alternative transportation (bike compound, critical mass, workshops, carpool, upass, etc.)
3. Composting in residence and cafeterias
4. Environmental Awareness week (workshops, speakers, events, etc.)
5. Styrofoam-free campus, general waste reduction
6. Energy efficiency and renewable energy
7. Buy nothing day
8. Free Store
If you need any more information don't hesitate to email us or come knock on our door which is 157 Helen Glass. We hope see you all on thursday. Take care and talk to you soon!
Peace, love and recycling!
