Hello Everyone,

I hope the first couple of weeks have gone smoothly and you all aren't already bogged down with more work than you know what to do with. As far as UMREG goes we are recycling as usual. At the moment there's not much more to tell you because we haven't planned any initiatives and activities for the rest of the school year. We are having a retreat this weekend where we will hash out all of our big ideas and we'll let you know what we come up with next week. Also feel free to come by the space (157 Helen Glass) or email us to let us know if you have any ideas or initiatives you want to try and work on.

Right now though the big event happening at the University is the Campus Commuter Challenge. All the information is below, so please sign up/participate and forward this to anyone else at the U of M you know and get them to sign up. The U of M is competing against the U of W and most of the other post-secondary institutes in Winnipeg so the more people who register the better. Also the prizes are fantastic for something that really only takes a minute of your time. Thanks in advance for all those who do participate!

The Campus Commuter Challenge
is an annual sustainable transportation event designed to showcase, reward, and hopefully increase the commitment of the students and staff of Winnipeg's post-secondary institutions to using methods other than single-passenger motor vehicles to get to and from school. To participate, all you have to do is each day during the week of September 18 - 22, commute to and from school using any transportation method besides a single passenger motor vehicle. Then, tell us how you commuted using the online registration form (http://www.resourceconservation.mb.ca/gci/CC/campus/index.html) and you will be automatically entered in the draw for the prize of your choice. That's all there is to it!

PRIZES:
A round trip ticket for two persons in sleeper class between Winnipeg and Churchill courtesy of Via Rail Canada
Free transit for the rest of the school year! (7 months worth of Winnipeg Transit bus passes)
A three-month membership at the
YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg

The week ends with Car Free Day in the Exchange:
Come out and enjoy an afternoon of workshops on cycling and sustainable transportation, contests and prizes, car free films, delicious local and organic food, and back by popular demand, a pick-up game of street hockey!
When: Friday, September 22nd
Where: Albert Street between McDermot and Bannatyne
Time: 12:00 – 5:00 pm

Have a great weekend everyone. Take care and stay green!
