Circular No 103/2010
Dated 30 March 2010

Dear Members of the Bar, pupils in chambers, students, academics, NGO/civil society activists, concerned citizens and friends,

MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY - JOIN THE CONSTITUTIONAL LAW COMMITTEE (TERM 2010/2011) AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE MYCONSTITUTION CAMPAIGN!

Some time in June last year, the Constitutional Law Committee (ConstiLC) invited you to join the Committee and to work with us.  We promised you “an experience”. (http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/constitutional_law/constilc_kicks_off_on_19_june_2009_at_3pm_.html)

Since then, we have completed the first term of the MyConstitution Campaign/Kempen PerlembagaanKu (MyConsti).  Diverse individuals on the ConstiLC have spent enormous time, energy and resources to sustain the Campaign thus far.  It has been an honour working with you.

Along the MyConsti journey, we have made many new friends.  Many, if not all, share the same zeal and belief as us.  Many want to make a difference in society.  Many have, in their own ways, helped us increase the influence and reach of the Campaign.  Thank you.

The Campaign will end in March 2011.  There is one more term left.  This term, in addition to launching the remaining six Campaign phases on (i) the Legislature; (ii) the Executive; (iii) the Judiciary; (iv) elections and democracy; (v) rakyat and fundamental liberties; and (vi) Sabah and Sarawak, we would focus on taking the Campaign to the people living outside of the Klang Valley, and also to the Orang Asli and Orang Asal.

The pace of the Campaign has been electrifying - we draft the “Rakyat Guides”, we produce the “Rakyat Service Advertisements”, we organise and run promotional activities, forums/dialogues (termed “Conversations on the Constitution”), distribution parties, workshops, and we work with the media to publicise the Campaign through interviews, articles and opinion pieces.

Needless to say, we need more help!  We need new, energetic, yet-to-be-discovered, homegrown talents, functioning through the Committee, to spread the Campaign.  In our quest to “merakyatkan Perlembagaan”, anyone may join us.  Everyone has a role to play.  You do not need to be an “expert” in the Constitution; and truth be told, we are not “experts” either!

The Campaign will only work if we have members who believe in the Campaign and are willing to work hard to make the Campaign work.  What is most important is the commitment to achieve the Campaign’s objectives.

We would like to officially invite you to be a member of the ConstiLC and to move the Campaign with us.  To those who have eagerly pledged to join us, a very warm welcome.  For those who are considering, wait no more!  Sign up today and give your bit back to society.

Kindly fill the attached reply slip with your details and return the same by fax at 03-2026 1313 or by email to ka...@malaysianbar.org.my.  You would then be included onto the ConstiLC e-group and let’s get cracking!

Our first Committee meeting for the term 2010/2011 will take place on 23 April 2010, 5:00 pm at the Bar Council (Meeting Room 1, 3rd Floor, No. 15, Leboh Pasar Besar, 50050 Kuala Lumpur).  You should attend this meeting.

To help you get started, please read our Annual Report for last term (2009/2010) found here: (http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/constitutional_law_committee/constitutional_law_committees_annual_report.html)
