Hi,

We are still in the process of implementing Umlaut at Durham University. It's getting close to going live: we'll be launching it as the OpenURL resolver front end used from Primo which we are currently implementing too.

I just wanted to ask about any special things people might have done to get Primo and Umlaut integrated. I gather that Scot has umlaut at https://github.com/team-umlaut/umlaut-primo but I am not totally clear what it is for. Does it replace the Primo details tab? What is its function exactly? I see that the NYU has a very different results display from what I am used to, but I am not sure how much is achieved with CSS and how much is Umlaut or other cleverness.

We would be happy to stick with the standard Primo results displays for the moment, but it would be nice to achieve the following:

* From the results displays, get the View Online working so that Umlaut takes you straight through to the sole full-text source (if there is only one). I have mixed feelings about what to do if there is more than one source.

* Do an embedded version of the Umlaut menu so that the "More" tab in Primo does not have the banner at the top and the metadata details which Primo will have displayed anyway.

* It would also be interesting to have a Primo connector in Umlaut so that if we have arrived at Umlaut from an external index, such as Web of Science, it might be possible to identify free sources of articles via institutional respositories which are indexed in Primo Central, and related material such as research data associated with the article.

We have a new web developer getting to grips with Umlaut so I hope we'll be able to work out how to do these things without having to beg for a lot of help on the list, but if anyone has any immediate pointers to things we should consider or approaches to take, I'd appreciate it. But don't waste too much of your time!

Matthew

I'll let Scot answer your questions, as I honestly know nothing about
it, but know that Scot does have some primo functionality he added to
Umlaut.

Also, to let everyone know, I am currently working on a new major
version of Umlaut that will use Rails4, be based on bootstrap3, and
include i18n functions for displaying in alternate languages. Hope to
have it out early this fall.

Jonathan
