I just got in a batch of 9.1 GB ATA disks for some Ultra 10's running 2.6;
but it's been too long since I last did this and I can't remember how to
get the systems to recognize them.

I started with a "boot -r" on one box; when the machine came up it had the
appropriate (I think) device special files in /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk. But
attempts to partition/mkfs/etc. all give this error:

WARNING: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide3@3/dad@1,0 (dad1):
corrupt label - wrong magic number

What am I missing?

This is normal. It's just that the disk hasn't been partitioned
under Solaris before. Run the "format" program, go to the
"partition" menu and create a partition table. Once you save it
and exit, you will be able to use newfs to put filesystems on the
various partitions on the disks.

Thanks to Danno, zee, ainman and Mark Montague; the answer is to ignore
the warning, and don't bother trying to specify the new drive on the
command line - just type "format" and pick the new drive from the list it
comes up with.
