Folks,

We have an HP LaserJet 5p printer here, networked via a 2812C ExtendNet DX box.
I am trying to set up this printer using Solaris (2.6) SysV printing.
Nothing works. Stuff can get printed on this printer from a PC, though, via Novell.
On printing something, sometimes, I get a blank sheet. Sometimes, nothing happens.
With all the print jobs, a message saying that the request has been queued, appears on my
terminal. The faultMessage in /etc/lp/printersfile/lp/don(don is the printer) reads:
"Failed to open the printer port. (Bad address)".

Here are the details:

I did the following at the command prompt:

lpadmin -p don -s <extendnet-fully-qualified-name>\!Printer1 -I any

In the above statement, Printer1 identifies the printer on Port 1 of the ExtendNet
PrintServer. I spoke with an Extended Systems tech support yesterday, and was
told that I could use any name for the queue on Port 1 as long as it ends with the
digit, "1". Today, I changed the queuename to "PORT1". But the printing
still doesn't work. I have stopped getting blank pages also. Here are the entries from the
/etc/lp/printers/don/configuration and /etc/printers.conf files:
-------------/etc/lp/printers/don:-------
Content types: any
Printer type: unknown
Remote: 141-213-226-135.ns.itd.umich.edu!PORT1
Options: protocol=bsd,dest=<extendnet-fully-qualified-name>
-------------

-----------/etc/printers.conf:-----------
don:\
        :bsdaddr=<extendnet-fully-qualified-name>,PORT1,Solaris:
-----------------------------------

Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.
