I've got a RedHat linux 6.0 system with an Intel i810 video card on it.
After an upgrade to XFree86 3.3.5 and some i810 drivers from
ftp.precisionindustries.com, and finally edits to /etc/XF86Config, and a
link to the server:
ln -sf /usr/X11R6/bin/XFCom_i810 /etc/X11/X
All is well -- at least if I don't have the system start X automatically
but instead, manually login from a terminal prompt and issue a "startx"
command. I get 24-bit color, 1024x768. All looks happy.
However, if I start X automatically (which is invoked in /etc/inittab to
run /etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon) and login, I get what looks to be maybe 256
colors and 640x480. I see that /etc/X11/prefdm links to /usr/bin/gdm.
How do I get /usr/bin/gdm to honor all my great XF86Config changes et. al?
Or do I start x with a different program?
Thanks for any help,
- Rick

the X server it is running is /usr/bin/X11/X, which is a link to Xwrapper.
Perhaps that is not getting the right server.
