On Sunday morning October 22, 2000 7:00 - 8:00 am , we plan
to upgrade the software on the UMICH.EDU Kerberos
authentication servers. Many applications, including most UMCE
Basic Computing Package (BCP) services, depend upon the
UMCE Kerberos servers for authentication.
The new Kerberos servers are compatible with the current
servers. All existing applications should continue to run without
modification. Access to services based on the Kerberos servers
may be denied briefly during the time period 7:00 - 8:00 am
Sunday October 22.
The new Kerberos software is more compatible with the
Microsoft Windows 2000 usage of Kerberos, especially
password changing, and supports using stronger encryption
algorithms. The new Kerberos software is MIT Kerberos
Version 5 Release 1.2.1.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this change,
please send email to i...@umich.edu or call me at 764-0375.
