Have any of you been to this show? Is it worth a three-hour drive?
nope. Used to be but ebay and the economy have taken care of it.
Thanks for the heads-up, Jack. I guess if I want to check out a nice
selection of archtops, I'll need to head for the coast.
I was just in Mandolin Bros. a few days ago for the first time several
years, hoping to play a bunch of archtops. Alas, their inventory mix
has changed quite a bit. Very few archtops. Two lower end
Benedettos, a few very nice Buscarinos, a smattering of used Gibsons,
but that was about it. The space seems to have been taken up by an
increase in the usual Fenders and Gibsons, which used to occupy a
relatively small percentage of the rack space there. If there's any
doubt about the archtop market having cooled, there's Exhibit A for
you.
It's still a wonderful shop for flattops, though. (And mandolins.)
