Title: The ICMAS-00 Trading Agent Competition: Lessons Learned

The ICMAS-00 Trading Agent Competition presented a challenging market
game to agents entered by twenty competing teams from six countries.
This event demonstrated the potential of programmed trading in a
quasi-realistic commerce scenario, and highlighted some pivotal
problems faced by designers of traders as well as market
infrastructure. Post-competition analysis of game data in
conjunction with entrants' self-reported strategy descriptions
reveals sophisticated trading algorithms and widespread learning of
game insights. This experience will inform and motivate future
research in trading agents, as well as follow-on competition events.
