Greetings,

I'm trying to set up an Oracle server and clints for Phoenix. To order the
software from ITD you need to magincally know which programs and versions
you need/want since ITD will not tell you and insists that you precisely
specify. So I thought I would ask for help in either where to go or have
you just let me know what the answers might be. Note I'm asking for advice
not looking for someone to blame so feel free to kibitz, I won't hold you
responsible for my choices.

Situation:
WindowsNT server
Windows95 & Power Mac clients

Ithink I might need the following:

Server: Platform Windows NT
Software: Oracle Server Enterprise Edition version___
?Web Application Server, Advanced version___
Developer/2000 Server
SQL*Plus

Clients: Windows
Software: Personal Oracle version_______
Designer/2000 version______
Developer/2000 version_____
Programmer/2000 version_____
SQL*Plus version________
?? Discoverer User Edition, Discoverer Administrator Edition
Oracle Lite
Clients: Power Macintosh
Software: Personal Oracle version_______
Designer/2000 version______
Developer/2000 version_____
Programmer/2000 version_____
SQL*Plus version________
?? Discoverer User Edition, Discoverer Administrator Edition
Oracle Lite

Any help, suggestions references other than 'look on the web at ITD or
Oracle' would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks,
ed

8.0.5 is the latest version we have.
> ?Web Application Server, Advanced version
v4.0.6 is out,but 3.0.2 was the certified version for Dev/2K on solaris
> Developer/2000 Server
v2.1 is the latest. Earlier versions didn't work well.
You'll need java plug-ins on the client. NT & W95 available from Oracle,
Mac version comes from Apple or Symantec. Called Jinitiator.
> SQL*Plus

Web application server & Dev2K server don't have a reliable track
record so far. My experience w/ these on Sun servers has not been
good. That said, I suspect that it may work better on NT.

for over a year, and shipped products that may or may not work

Not neede for client side install
> Designer/2000 version______
Not needed unless you are into designing complicated databases.
For simple applications, it's better to learn the SQL syntax and
create the tables yourself.
> Developer/2000 version_____
version 2.1

> Programmer/2000 version_____
I haven't used this.
> SQL*Plus version________
I believe this will come with Dev/2K. This is their SQL interpreter.

> ?? Discoverer User Edition, Discoverer Administrator Edition

Simple query tool, not as good as GQL, but free with Oracle license
> Oracle Lite
Not needed. Same as Personal Oracle

Not needed
> Designer/2000 version______
Not available
> Developer/2000 version_____
Version 1.2.2 is latest.
> Programmer/2000 version_____
I have not used this. Needed for heavy PL/SQL development

See comment for Windows version. Not ever sure if this available on Mac
> Oracle Lite
